Line Rider: Advanced alpha r1.51 [December 30] Line Properties
Line Rider advanced is a project I've been working on a few months. It's written from scratch, supports beta 6.2 physics, supports .sol file loading. Read the included help document for more on the added features.
The game is only in alpha, and likely to include bugs. It'd help me greatly if you could leave any bug reports in this thread with instructions on how to reproduce the bug.
It's supports mac osx and linux using the Mono Framework. I've only tested on a local copy of Linux Mint, however. so any issues I'd love to know of.
To track makers: At any point of updating, future versions are intended to be backwards compatible with all lr:a tracks.
Known issues:
Audio device changes aren't handled well, like unplugging you default audio device.
Issues with Retina displays?
Mac app pack here
Windows users may need .NET framework 4 client profile. Try this if you cannot start the game.
Mac/linux users: Due to the fact mp3 still requires paying royalties to license, in order to music sync you will have to convert to another format, ideally wav.

Patch Notes:
- 1.51:
- Snapping changes, particularly for zoomed out lines.
Right click to edit a line's properties.
Line property: trigger. Triggers a certain function associated with the line when bosh touches it. Only one trigger is added, zoom trigger, which zooms in/out in a certain amount of frames.
Trigger lines can be used on red or blue lines and turn them (in editor mode) from black to orange.
All pink lifelock preference.
some bugfixes.
Camera now averages based on contact points, instead of focusing on bosh's butt.
Fixed a rendering quirk for some computers.
- 1.5:
- Big feature: Lifelock
If the rider is dead during playback in the current frame, use the line adjust tool, and hold ALT to enable lifelock, which will turn the notches red. You can now move a line until it no longer kills bosh in that frame, at which point it will stop.
tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktCB-8WEA78
Fixed OTDE's obscure bug.
New scarf!
Bosh is 50% transparent if the "Show contact lines" setting is enabled
Shift during line adjustment enables angle lock
Removed loading a track filling the undo queue.
Added superzoom preference.
Sound bugfixes.
Scenery can be moved.
If line is 45 degrees locked, it won't snap it's second half.
no longer recalculates after adding or removing scenery lines.
Tracks now load the last used song for it if possible.
No longer recalculates the entirety of playback every time. Instead, it recalculates based on if a line could have affected the rider in past frames. If not, doesn't recalculate.
White BG toggle in preferences.
- 1.42:
responsive live editing, when you use line adjust during playback, the current frame will begin updating immediately. Before, it would only begin once you applied the change by releasing the mouse.
live editing preference
"Show contact lines" is much different now. It now indicates if the next frame will die, and what contact line is responsible by appearing as an orange line. Rider and sled breaks for the next frame turn the contact points dark blue.
added 16x playback
bugfix involving snapping one line to the same line twice.
bugfix where high update speeds wouldn't actually hit the speed intended.
- 1.3:
- tab varies line intensity
red lines now have varying intensity. Right click the red line color box to change intensity between 1x, 2x, and 3x.
playing around with scarf graphic on the model. Still not final, really.
changed around zooming
scenery line thickness: 0.5x, 1x, 2x, and 3x.
line adjust shows angle
75% playback
recording mode settings
ctrl+P opens preferences
backend fps changes. Most notably, reduced redundant frames causing the game to render playback at 60FPS at a complete waste.
preview mode setting
scenery dots using the pencil tool
home/end button send you to the first and last line, respectively.
Z and X function like in LR beta 2 for zooming
major bug fixes
fixed bug causing the entire tracks folder to be deleted (yikes)
changed audio system to be more reliable, hopefully.
line adjust tool now drags both joints of connected lines
left/right keys frame forward/back during pause
bugfix shift I + music sync
bugfix some issues with playback scrubbing
song sync should try to return to normal playback if the client lags.
momentum vectors setting.
larger zooming out

Can you please add like... every single feature kevans also has
because then this would be perfect

this is through the roof
I'm getting ahead of myself due to excitement, I should probably chill and let the rev do his thang. You are god.

That is amazing. I love the new features! I can't believe it's backwards-compatible!
Re: Line Rider: Advanced alpha r1.51 [December 30] Line Properties
Just an idea on how to better organize options:
Organize options by tool/feature. If it's related to the pencil tool, you right click on the pencil tool and play with its settings. If you want to do something with the color green, you right click on that. Play, saving, editing, flagging, moving--all covered. Also very intuitive. If you add features, you won't have to mess with organization much at all.

Playback would be camera tools and slowmo, etc. and editing tools would be pencil

I appreciate the input from all of you, but most of the things you're mentioning have already been considered and often times actually done.
Most of the things in Kevans builds are included in my build, some aren't yet but planned, some might be intentionally left out. It depends on how I judge it. A lot of features were not properly shown off, I'll list them all off on release as I intend to include a help document.
The game is indeed low lag, especially compared to the flash version.
Zoom level is already indicated by a slide control.

Okay! What about if you need a specific zoom for something like, say, scenery framing?

Is a thing. Assuming you mean playback zoom. If you want to see the actual number for editor zoom I could show a tooltip on the slider. I'm not sure if it's necessary though. Thoughts?

Re: Line Rider: Advanced alpha r1.51 [December 30] Line Properties
Wow, Lukking, so many unused lines
Haha, just kidding man (I love that track)
This looks beast, I can't wait to try it out, especially considering the music sync & low lag. That's all I ever wanted aside from the already existing flag & slow-mo features.
Great stuff, amazing, scrumptious, delicious, far out, mind blowing, exciting, are a few of the words that come to mind

I'm all about this. Especially the music sync. As soon as this is out, I might get back into starting a new project.

Re: Line Rider: Advanced alpha r1.51 [December 30] Line Properties
Well, I said that because I started to make a track a few weeks ago and was planning a song sync, and well, it was a pain in the ass. Also with my current job that I'm about to quit, I have zero time to take on a track. I work like 12-15 hours a day 5 days a week. So hopefully this will be out by the time I escape from the plantation I'm enslaved at!

As for how necessary it is to include information like tool-tips, I warn you now that what you think is necessary versus what actually is will make itself abundantly clear as time goes on. The angle tool, the line length information, etc.
I noticed we can drag both ends of a LINE AGHHHHH
After I have played around a bit, I may make a post thing about feature requests but I don't intend to drown you in your own PERSONAL project. You haven't opened yourself to the masses just yet. But do know how sought after this shit is.

As an update: I got the issue I had with cross platform audio fixed; I still have to deal with an unusual big with retina displays though. I also decided that there was something off about how I made the editor work, and so I'm looking into making it cleaner.

Are you talking about the code you used to make the editor or the arrangement of the editor itself?

Basically how the user interacts with the editor. Not a major overhaul, or anything, but I'm battling with scrubbing right now and how it works with flags, etc.OTDE wrote:LoneVampire wrote:As an update: I got the issue I had with cross platform audio fixed; I still have to deal with an unusual big with retina displays though.
