Here I will have information about upcoming polls and how the seeding will be done, when they will be posted, official records, and etc. I'll be running this all myself this time since I have much more free time than last summer.

Please ask if you have any questions or comments! I'm trying to be as transparent as possible about how this all will work. Also, please don't baww about double posts. This one is the main post which I will change as time goes on, and in the rest of the thread I will post updates.

The Big Picture

Our method for running ToCC went very well, and I really felt like the tracks were seeded more fairly than in ToC or ToC2, so we will do that same method here. I'll try to explain it for you.

The big idea is to start out with several large, randomly seeded, multiple choice polls and seed the entries for the rest of the tournament based off of the results of that poll. We want to pit the best track against the worst, and the second, best against the second, worst, and so on, (to keep large confrontations form happening early on) and we use these polls to roughly determine which ones are "best" and "worst". Then we move to polls of 4 (eliminate 2 from each poll), and then to polls of 2 for the rest of the tournament.

Plans:
70 to 49 (7 polls of 10, 3 eliminated)
49 to 32 (8 polls of 6, 2 eliminated; + one with 7, 3 eliminated)
32 to 16 (8 polls of 4, 2 eliminated)
16 to 8 (8 polls of 2)
8 to 4
4 to 2
2 to 1

ROUND 1

- 7 multiple-choice polls of 10 videos each
- 3 videos eliminated for each poll
- Narrowed down from 70 to 48 videos
- Each poll will be open for 5 days, one posted each day.

People will be asked to choose their top 7, and we will eliminate the worst three. (you can vote for less than 7 if you want to). We will then rank them according to % of votes received and seed based on that. These will be large polls in order to make sure lots of good tracks don't end up in one poll, so they will be open for 5 days each, and one will go up every day, starting on Saturday, July 17th. Polls will stop going up after the 23rd and we can start round 2 on the 28th.

ROUND 2

- 7 multiple-choice polls of 6 videos each, 1 multiple choice poll with 7 videos
- 3 videos eliminated for each poll with 6, 4 videos eliminated from the one with 7
- Narrowed down from 49 to 32 videos
- Each poll will be open for 4 days, one posted each day.

The results of round 1 will be used to seed the videos for this round. I will use the formula "percentage + number of votes" to rank them. The number of total votes in the poll will tiebreak (less is better). Here is the ranking of the videos, with the videos from each poll added as the poll close. This list will not be final until Poll #7 closes immediately before Round 2 begins. [LIST NOW FINAL]

The videos are now roughly ranked in predicted order, so some of the polls should be blatantly obvious who will win. People will be asked to choose their top 2-4, and we'll eliminate the worst 2. I've decided to make these polls 4 days each because they're a lot smaller and because most people have already seen them and know which ones they prefer. Polls will start on the 28th and end on the 4th, and then round 3 will start on the 8th.

Seeding will be by the following system: Top 4 vs Bottom 2, Next 4 vs Next-to-bottom 2, and so on. The "middlemost" poll will be FIRST, because we usually get less voters later on, and that poll is likely to be the closest. Seeding based on above ranking:

To re-seed for round 3, I will simply add their percentage from round 2 to their current point total, which will hopefully even out some errors in the seeding for round 2. (which was definitely not perfect judging from poll results so far)

- 8 multiple-choice polls of 4 videos each
- 2 videos eliminated for each poll
- Narrowed down from 32 to 16 videos
- Each poll will be open for 4 days, one posted each day.

The percentages each video received in round 2 will be added to their score in the round 2 ranking to create the final ranking and to seed for round 3. Here is the ranking of the videos, with the videos from each poll added as the poll close. This list will not be final until Poll #8 closes immediately before Round 3 begins.

Polls will start on the 8th and end on the 15th, and then round 4 will start tight away on the on the 16th, since I don't have to re-seed anymore. Seeding will be by the following system: Top 2 vs Bottom 2, Next 2 vs Next-to-bottom 2, and so on. Seeding based on above ranking (not quite final):

- Narrowed down from 16 to 8 videos
- Each poll will be open for 5 days, one posted each day.

The percentages each video received in round 3 will be added to their score in the round 3 ranking to create the FINAL final ranking and to seed for round 4. (Decided to do this one more time) Here is the ranking of the videos, with the videos from each poll added as the poll close. This list is final because I'm making it as poll 8 closes, except we don't know if it will be archaeology or heart attack. If the LCC poll is tied tomorrow morning when it closes, it'll be heart attack. EDIT: heart attack won the LCC poll 6-5, archaeology was eliminated.

not sure about timing. There will probably be several days with 2 polls on the same day, not sure how much I can overlap the rounds. Gonna finish around the last full week of august, hopefully.

EDIT: actually, random seeding is up! Don't think you'll be up against these same people later on, this round is just to determine how they will be seeded. I'll be making a bracket thing after round 1 is over, and that's what will be really interesting

if we do the math, then it will be this
7 sets of 10 and if you eliminate 3 videos from each set of 10. that leaves 7 sets of 7. 7*7 = 49

as a result, one set in the next round will have an extra video.

That occurred to me. Did a re-do of the poll plan.

70 to 49 (7 polls of 10, 3 eliminated)

also, for the current seeding, you just have to not be one of the worst 3 and you'll move on. after that the seeding will be re-done.

Anyway, I was trying to come up with a system for ranking the vids in order so I can seed them.

This is very much not a final determiner of who will be eliminated and who won't, just a rough idea to see what will work best.

Formula #1: percentage

Don't like this one - too many ones with the same number, and Nocturnal and Heart attack are way ahead of BS - it gives precedence to ones that dominated the easier polls.

Formula #2: number of votes

I think this is better, but this is biased towards polls that had more votes in them. Poll #1 had 280 votes, while poll 3 only had 167, so we see some weird things - like Rek being ranked above Blue Champion and Manualogical above Vision.

Formula #3: percentage + number of votes

This one I like a lot better. Not perfect, but as far as I can see it's not biased towards anyone, except people in tough polls like 4 and 5 are lower on the list, but there's nothing that we can do about that for now. I thought about doubling the percentage aspect, but that would put nocturnal above phonolite scened and heart attack above manual mayhem supernatural and I don't think that would be accurate.

I also think I'll use the following for tiebreakers (we have 7 that are tied at 30 points currently):
- number of votes in poll (smaller is better)
- my personal preference (I have to choose somehow )

Sorry if it sounds like I'm being biased, but really I'm trying to make this as fair as I can. It's not really that big of a deal if someone is one spot ahead of someone else, they'll probably end up in the same poll in round 2.

I'm not sure whether we will re-seed at all after round 2, we'll use round 2 to judge how accurate the round 1 seeding was.
