[OTDE]: Give me a track and I'll classify it!
Name some tracks you wanna see up here, and I'll classify them!
More extreme examples are labeled (strong) and less extreme examples are labeled (weak).
In case you didn't hear about the four schools of thought, here's a quick summary:
Most art is on two independent spectrums.
The first is ART and LIFE-- that is, was this work made "for art's sake," or meant to be more relatable?
The second is TRADITION and REVOLUTION-- does your art seek to reinvent, or does it use established ideas?
From these two spectrums, four camps of thought emerge:
CLASSICISTS, above all else, pursue traditional ideals and seek a "higher" form of beauty.
ANIMISTS, on the other hand, use that tradition to make their works more relevant to the real world.
FORMALISTS experiment with the idea, shape, and form of the art medium itself.
ICONOCLASTS, on the other hand, hope to make everything as authentic and "real" as possible.
A more detailed image:
Theory #1: Most work in Line Rider is Classicist.
This is because most works in Line Rider are hard to relate to the outside world, and a lot of works in line rider build on traditions brought about by others.
Corollary: Most people start out as Classicists.
Theory #2: Most sceners are iconoclasts or animists.
Scenery tracks, by their very nature, are more relatable than bare tracks. This pushes scenery over into the right side of the plane MOST of the time. Some sceners (BHCS, Sorvius) have strong Classicist tendencies, but they tend to be exceptions.
Theory #3: Line Rider Iconoclasts are rare.
This is because of two things:
>>Revolution in a medium is difficult, and not everyone's cup of tea.
>>As stated before, tending towards relatability is difficult if you don't scene.
They're not necessarily better, but they are a LOT harder to find.
HAVE AT ME, FELLAS.

Telephoto is super strong formalist. It tries really hard to mess with the form of line rider, for the sake of line rider.
That thing that hypothet posted is like super duper classicist, and dark caves of lolno is surprising amounts of formalist, though for the sake of brevity and a joke I'm leaving them out of the main thread
Unusuals is also formalist-- It takes the structure and composition of manuals and tries to use it in new ways. I would say moderately formalist.

Re: [OTDE]: Give me a track and I'll classify it!
Responding to the rest:
2a. Formalist, deviating from his earlier, iconoclastic works.
2b + c. Animist-- uses traditional yet relatale scenery techniques.
3. Formalist-- applying old standards in a new way.
4a + b. Strong formalist-- playing with and referencing things is super formalist. Cereal's later works tend in this direction.
5a. Classicist-- powerful track, still traditionally made.
5b. Again, formalist-- Cereal's self-awareness and metahumor are what drive the idea home.
6. Iconoclast, with a Formalist slant. Revolutionary and relatable-- at first.
7. Contest entries are more often than not formalist-- you're given a form, and the winners usually challenge that form.
8. Same deal.
9. Vibrato is classicist-- our conception of why it is "good" is steeped in being powerful and recycling-- traditional standards.
Putting the big ones on the list.

Old tracks are actually super fun to classify with this system. Jagged Peak Adventure is extremely iconoclastic-- it's the first really relatable track that had scenery, and was revolutionary in every sense of the word.

Sketchbook Sessions was really interesting in how it played around with different ideas of manuals. It's a weak formalist/classicist mix.

Believe it or not, all 3 are classicist. They all have a set idea of what "good" xy is and try to push that standard rather than experiment with it.

In this order:
Classicist with Animist and Formalist tendencies in parts (the drop and the end, respectively)
Classicist. HardCORE. Good gravy.
Animist with Classicist tendencies. The ending and the parts that sync especially. It's especially rare to have an animist quirk, since they don't usually make themselves accessible.

Angel and Metropolis Run by me.
Phantasmagoric Heart by KW
Breathtaking Silence I think would be up in classisist personally, maybe MMX and Transcendental too. Thoughts?

Re: [OTDE]: Give me a track and I'll classify it!
Bumping post-mortem.
Angel is pretty clear-cut classicist. Not a lot of messing with anything, except perhaps style arrangement.
Metropolis run is weirdly formalist?? Not something scenery tracks usually do, but it messes with the idea of perspective decently enough.
PH is animist. It's a weird case where a quirk is attempting to relate to people and actually manages to do so.
Those three scenery tracks all have human//relatable elements. It makes them Animist at best and Classicist with Animist tendencies if you're absolutely hankerin' to classify things more conservatively.
