Re: Line Rider Confession Thread
I feel like this community is just as elitist as we always have been except now we are elitist ABOUT being elitist which is frankly worse.
Basically, you can't make a "great" track unless you started playing Line Rider a long time ago and tell people it's a little thing you did for fun.

Re: Line Rider Confession Thread
Yikes, guys, now I feel pretty bad about doing my little rant.
I guess sometimes I just feel useless because I can't do half of the crazy things you guys do, no matter how hard I try.
I dunno, maybe the only thing I can really do is appreciate the parts of tracks that I like and be understanding of everything else. I just kind of feel like I've been real petty, and I want to apologize to y'all. So, sorry for being loud and obnoxious about a very specific thing. I won't stop advocating for it, but I'll try and be less of a self-righteous prick about it.
With love <3

I saw right from the getgo, even before I posted anything or played again once I came back after a few months of lurking, that this was how it was and that is why I held on to my previous experience with LR so tightly. In essence, I've only been playing for a little bit over a year now, because of how much more into I am than I ever was.

Re: Line Rider Confession Thread
I don't believe anything will reignite a public passion into Line Rider and people are fooling themselves if they think there's a way, especially if they think it's as simple as moving to a more popular streaming service and getting people to watch modern trackmaking to get more community members.
The most active we've been since 2009 at least is when someone made a Reddit post on 4/1/2013 and we had 300 guests visit this site at once, and we were all alone again by the end of the day, perhaps within the hour iirc. We had 1, probably 2 registrations and people who posted tracks, and are they here now?

Getting visits is easy compared to making them stay. C'mon, LR is nostalgic for the Unregistered hypercam 2 and song link generation. (Collects firewood)
Why is it difficult to gain active players? From the prespective of a new player (Starts fire):
Not noob-friendly at all. Obscure game. Uneasily found. Difficult af. Elitist. Just fuck the terminology. High excpectations. (Throws fuel on fire)
It limits the playerbase drastically. However, it seems this community exclusively consists of that one enthusiastic, intelligent, creative, friendly, inventive and passionate percent, only made possible by such filter in the first place(The fire was fictional).
I'd much rather maintain these ways than increase the playerbase at cost of the current mentality. Also, modern trackmaking is more intimidating than intriguing.

Re: Line Rider Confession Thread
theres more to moving sites than possibly gaining a new member or two. the chat on twitch is far better than livestreams could ever hope to be. its what we wanted livestream to be from the start.Fauxfyre wrote:I don't believe anything will reignite a public passion into Line Rider and people are fooling themselves if they think there's a way, especially if they think it's as simple as moving to a more popular streaming service and getting people to watch modern trackmaking to get more community members.

Re: Line Rider Confession Thread
As far as player base is concerned, I don't think we would necessarily enjoy lots of people joining at a time. Pretty much everyone here has grown to know and accept each other. The larger the player base gets, the harder it will be to keep peace between people. If we want to grow the player base, then LRA and Ride Online are probably the right direction. They will be much easier for people to access and use than having to get the right .swf and flash player version and find the localhost folder.

Re: Line Rider Confession Thread
I understand what youre saying by this and its a legitimate point, but you may be overestimating how many people would stay out of those that show up. The switch to twitch isn't just about viewerbase, its about professionalism. livestream.com is a dinosaur website with a flash design that allows no information drawn from it, while twitch has the plugins and the chatbots that we can integrate into the site and the like.theacp127 wrote:As far as player base is concerned, I don't think we would necessarily enjoy lots of people joining at a time. THIS.
I can make this stuff! I can integrate live streaming into the LR client. How do you think Twitch Plays Pokemon works? Open APIs are awesome
at the very least the chatbox will be better
also we will soon be finally completely free from flash

It's been almost 9 YEARS since LR was invented, WHY DO THESE POSTS KEEP. HAPPENING. EVERY. FUCKING. MONTH.
They do NOTHING except start huge arguments and get everyone in a bad mood.

Totally unrelated to the above post:
Many people here take Line Rider, We Ride the Lines, and other people's opinions too seriously and is the reason every single time I've taken breaks for a months on end.
It is possible to be an active community member without being a fanatic.

The thing is that some people are fanatical about anything they care about a lot. I wouldn't even say "many people" here. It's a small portion, but a few fanatical fans are often louder than the rest so they are more noticed. I think it's best to understand that often people like that can't help it, and to take what they say with a grain of salt and not let it bother you or take it personally. If you don't, it will upset you more than it should.

When I first joined this site, I thought that those things that say your name in peoples signatures were real and I thought that for some reason, I was popular. I started replying to all of them in my own signature saying thanks and what not.
I was very wrong. Wasn't popular at all.
