We could be moving!

Ok guys. here's the deal. RevO has a new site created for us. I'm not going to give you the url because there isn't much there to see. Basically, it's a phpBB forum that is completely desolate at the moment. We can move there if we want to. Here's a picture of what it looks like currently:

Pros of moving there:
- far more control over that site than this site
- Eibwen says he's going to try to skin it for us like the old IRTL
- mediafire links wouldn't be annoying
- It's probably we could find a better shoutbox, a better posting interface, and a better awards system

Cons of moving there vs THIS site
- I'll have to create the whole site from scratch again (which is even more work than making it for forumotion - which took about 5 days that I didn't have school)
- If RevO disappears and the server goes down, we'll have to come back here. This place is virtually guaranteed to never go down.
- We'll have to find all the hax ourselves that are on this site, forumotion won't tell us what stuff they used for things.
- We'll have to start all over again with users, post count, and activity in general - we can't copy stuff from here because forumotion doesn't want us to leave.

Cons of moving there vs the OLD site
- It's not vBulletin, so it will never look exactly like the old site
- We won't have any of the old site's threads
- We'll have to go find as much hax as we can to make it similar to the old site, and it's unlikely we'll find it all, and it definitely won't be exactly the same.
- We won't have any of the members or threads from the old site

So yeah, answer the poll question.

I also have another question. What stuff do you miss from the old site that we could possibly install on this new site?

I think we should stay here. We already had a lot of trouble, so why would we take the risk to get into more? And if I look at the picture, it almost looks exactly like this site.

I think it's not worth it to move. But that's just my opinion.
I didn't really stay very long at the old site, so I don't miss anything from it. This is like my ''first home''.

Wow....well to be honest, post count isn't really an issue, so that's fine.

.Creating it from scratch...I personally don't have any issues...however I do realise that it will take a lot of your time, I think that you should just take as much time as you need (assuming that it is you doing the work) because we've been here for a while and it's not the end of the world if we wait a little longer.

The only thing I REALLY am worried about is creating all the threads from here...can we use a "crawler" (think it was called that) like last time? If not I don't mind helping with things.

Overall I don't have much objection to moving, I do love this place, but the new is always exciting So I'm saying yes!
Also, about the new things...I think you've covered all I wanted (namely the shoutbox)
EDIT: One last thing, if we DO move I think that before we should stay until we finish all the competitions of the meek/month before we move so we're not in the middle of something when we move.

^yeah @ the competition/contests because we barely didnt get the TOC2 when we moved here.

Just want to point out that Eibwen says he will skin it to try to make it look like the old site. But if he doesn't or we don't like it, I'll be using the skin of this site.

We never used a crawler, mhenr said he would make one but never did (surprise!) If you're worried about the stickied threads and stuff, this site will still exist at www.iridethelines.forumotion.com (the new one would be www.weridethelines.com) so we can just copypasta anything we want to.

And I agree about the competitions. End of January I think would be a nice time, if we do decide to move.

This site would still be wrtl, and it would still be phpBB, which is what forumotion uses. Just pointing that out. Think about what it is that makes this site "blow" and then think about if it would be better at this hypothetical new site. We're not just going back to the old site, that's for sure.

I think we should switch sites, we can always go back to this one if the new one doesn't turn out well (which I highly doubt). I don't really care we can't transfer our data

Edit found one on the phpbb.com site forums, but it says the forumotion site has to be using phpbb 3.0.x, and I don't even know what this site is using, looks like phpbb 3 but then again it doesn't. Rabid what did you pick? phpBB 2 or 3 when making this forum?

Um no, phpbb is free, thats how we are using it here.

EDIT: I downloaded it and it looks rather complex. But we do have phpBB3.

Also, polls won't transfer. No big deal though, we will always have this site.

I'm all for it. Post count and all the threads here = trash. except the track threads pretty much. I say we move there and I know Eib would do a fantastic job with the skin.

I have the source code to the IRtL MCG Chatbox if you want to mod it around.

Honestly, that's the only mod to vB 3.6.5 that Old IRtL had that we'd care about. Featured movies was weird, the arcade just took away from the site and the wiki was pretty pointless on a forum.

The old skin was a modified version of Tangerine by vbSkinWorks (now ForumFlux) and I have that theme (all images, all XML - it's vB 3.8.x XML but one could use it as a reference to build a phpBB theme) on my Mac.

TD added scanlines to stuff, like this: . He also changed the colour scheme from the tan/orange to red by modifying the source images (the buttons were white on black instead of white on orange as seen in the screencaps) and fiddling with the XML for the theme.

He used it before he moved from phpbb to vb himself but just to test it out and then purchased vBulletin, just ask LineBreast.

but there were several other mods I think we'd like. awards, reputation, new posts, who is viewing a thread, and there were a zillion others but I can't remember them all.

Most of what you just said rabid weren't mods but regular features of vB.

General info:

CSS Font Family: tahoma, verdana, geneva, lucida, lucida grande, arial, helvetica, sans-serif - size is 11px for small text and 13px for normal text.
The red used as the base for all the red elements in the page is #CC0000.
The background colour of the site (the colour at the bottom of the fade on the top of the page, shown in the right column) is #C0C0C0.	. .

When I first read what RS said, I voted no for new site, then later after reading all of these replies, I changed my mind.

I like this idea and would happy move and register on the new site ^^

I totally want to move. The picture looks pretty good. Better than here at least. I don't think we need the skins from IRtL though. It's WRtL now so why make it look like IRtL?

Also the thing that I would like it to have that IRtL had is an arcade. I haven't forgotten what you said about an arcade being pointless because they could just go to another site for games but I think that having an arcade would cause people to spend more time on the site maybe make it more likely for them to stop by the forum and make posts more often.

This site makes me feel... Not welcomed here because of the way it looks. If Eibwen can make the new site look like the original site, or near it, that would be great. For some reason, I don't like this site, the old site made me feel good. And it doesn't show your post count on this one :/

I still have a ton of images and banners and things on my comp from archiving IRTL, if that could help

If you're in the arcade, you're not posting in the forum.
It's a hassle when someone cheats, because people complain and go insane and make the forum a hate filled place and mods/admins have to fix up the mess for something that isn't even related to the site. Plus, it's annoying seeing someone online and going "hey they might come on the sb soon, yay" and then realising they just spent 4 hours in the arcade and did nothing else.
