6.8 is coming.
What do you want to see in the next AS2 LR?
If it's
-Realtime scrubbing of tracks (which automatically brings butter smooth rewind and fast forward)
-Lag reduction
-Crash resistance
-An upgraded pencil tool
-Realtime multiplayer editing of tracks on a server
then don't mention it. Those things are happening in 6.8 already.
Log/Todo list:
(13/11/10) XY Snap added (for line tool and pencil) - help updated.
(13/11/10) Holding M while starting simulation starts it in slowmo.
(13/11/10) Help is now shown by holding H for 1.5 seconds.
(13/11/10) Status indicator created for XY snap.
(13/11/10) Zooming is now possible with the scroll wheel.
(15/11/10) Colour Eraser - update help too.
(15/11/10) Make eraser size variable.
(15/11/10) Make snapping shown in the preview while drawing a line.
(15/11/10) Fix the settings and server buttons.
(not done) Enable forcing of 6.6/7 physics. This is no longer being done, due to difficulties in implementation. If there's a huge demand, I'll try again, but I don't think it'll be a dealbreaker.
(15/11/10) Add autosaving. - And also make a new 6.8 save format
(19/11/10) Enable snapping of start point. (BTW, did you guys know that holding shift when moving the start point sends it back to the default spot?)
(not done) Add smooth pencil drawing. This will be postponed until I can get some help on getting this working properly.
(19/11/10) Allow the flag target to be set. - Also, flags are now gone in their current form. Flag = ghost flag now.
(20/11/10) Enable frame skipping.
(20/11/10) Allow the slow motion framerate to be set.
(20/11/10) Allow the camera target to be set.
(20/11/10) Allow playback controls to be set.
(20/11/10) Add in the extra info (the stuff near the fps in 6.6/7).
(4/12/10) Pre release - bugfixes.
Changes/Fixes made:
(not done) Implement playback cache.
(not done) Implement fast forwarding and rewinding using the playback cache.
(not done) Implement playback scrubbing from the cache.
(not done) Implement Level 1 render optimizations for editor and playback.
(not done) Add in crash resistance.
(not done) Change the blink rate of Bosh in slowmo.
(not done) Add in colour playback (hold C).
(not done) Add in adaptive speed track loading.
(not done) Pre release - bugfixes.
(not done) Online track editing.
(not done) Pre-release client and server - bugfixes.
(not done) Release 6.8.0 and server.
(not done) Change anything requested by community.
(not done) Release 6.8.1 and any server updates if needed.
(not done) Add level 2 optimizations.
(not done) Add thumbnail previews of tracks in the save panel.
(not done) Add in instant loading for level 2 optimized tracks.
(not done) Pre-release client and server - bugfixes.
(not done) Release 6.8.2 and any server updates.
(not done) Start work on next major release.

Changes/Fixes made:
- The eraser behaves identically to the one in iRide. Clicking it deselects all swatches and erases all line types. If you choose a line type, it'll only erase that type.
- The default settings now show up on the settings panel, like they should.
- Frameskip bug where it would just skip whole sections of track is fixed. BTW frameskip is so perfect now, sceners will rejoice.
- Autosave bug where the track data was not saved to disk frequently enough, making some lines be lost on exit.
- Autosave bug where it wouldn't work at all after turning it on in Settings and saving the track.
- Bug where lines would appear on top of Bosh is fixed.
- Bug where the camera when set to view both the rider and sled would slowly lose the rider is fixed.
- Bug where coming out of slow motion when frameskip is on would skip a lot of frames is fixed.
- The enter key now acts like the Y key and starts playback.

Things you probably should know about 6.8:
- Instead of the localhost folder, .sol files are saved to the #localWithNet folder. It's so I can do multiplayer, and they're still compatible with any other AS2 LR.
- I can build it using 6.7 physics if required, however I won't support those builds or release them often (you'd probably need to be working on an extremely huge track for me to consider it). 6.8 runs using the real 6.2 engine, as my source code is fsk's own (complete with comments from him).
- It's already stable because it's built off working code. If you need any of the things that I've already done (as in you have a massive project happening), I can give you a pre-release build. If you just want to test, I've got enough people helping me out already.
- You can save tracks in 6.8 format back to 6.2 format, I've put that in and it works fine.
- Crash resistance has nothing to do with the physics of the game. It's so you don't lose your unsaved work when your track can't be autosaved and flash player crashes due to a script error or something else. If someone says one more thing about this, I'll go insane.
- I've said it before, but the frameskip is AWESOME. Use it all the time, it makes sure you never leave that sweet 40fps speed.

Re: 6.8 is coming.
Crash resistance and lag reduction? Woah! They're insanley awesome!!
So for requests:
1) Like in beta 3 have an eraser tool which can erase certain lines, such as green so you can remove the scenery.
2) Thinking about it, a tool which can remove all the scenery would be better, but I'm not sure if it's possible =/
3) Something which can save flags, I'm sure we've all had the problem of when you get far into a track, put the flag in the wrong place and have to watch it all again, you rage and break your computer. It's not fun.
4) A parallell line tool, this might be useful when doing a thick scened curve.
5) Multiple flags? Like flag 1 and 2, they could have uses for checking different parts of tracks.
6) Norbi.
I know most aren't possible but still, it'd be nice to see some of then in there ^^ So good luck with 6.8!!

Re: 6.8 is coming.
@wolf:
1. 6.7 already does that. Hold shift and click on the eraser tool. I'll make it more obvious and put all of my stuff in the little used Help thing so there's a reference.
2. I'll just do what I did in the unreleased AS3 builds and make the eraser size variable.
3. Realtime scrubbing solves that. Just drag the playhead to where you want to be and you're sweet. But if you want the flag saved, that's fine - I did it in the unreleased AS3 stuff so I know how to do it easily.
4. It can't be that hard to do it by eye?
5. It sounds good in theory but it can't be done without being clunky. Realtime scrubbing mostly fixes that by effectively having a flag at every frame on the track, so just scrub around when you need to check the track.
@ lag reduction, it's going to be doing it much like Minecraft - it will just load up chunks of the track you need. That way you only see what you need. Also, it has the neat effect of making splits rarely needed.
@ crash resistance, it's not making it not crash, that's impossible to do. What I'm doing is making it that you never lose a line when you quit LR, so you can load that up if you quit without saving (either by a crash or just quitting normally). It's not perfect but it makes a crash harmless.

Re: 6.8 is coming.
Please don't make like a copy and paste tool for scenery, or a parallel line thing. I'm no scener, but all I know is that if something like that is made I'll lose half my respect for scenery. Don't make anything that actually makes track-making or scenery "easier." And by easier I don't mean that lag reduction makes it easier I mean the ability to copy and paste lines or something. I like LR the way it is but I'd love the multiplayer, lag reduction, and crash resistance. Can't wait for this ^^

Lagg-reduction
Please dont make to much stuff in the play-mode. Keep it easy
EDIT: Agree with Votale No short-cuts in the scenery-parts...

Replied in bold, and well done for putting all this hard work into 6.8! ^^mhenr18 wrote:@wolf:

Wow, I never knew that O.o I'll be sure to try it, it'll make a load of things easier :3

OSSUM!

Meh, I suppose and I guess it is sorta like a shortcut as other people said

It wasn't really necessary for me, I was just thinkinig if other people wanted it, it isn't vital for many tracks I guess ^^

Re: 6.8 is coming.
What about a command/button, that allows you to zoom all in without doing it manually? Because its annoying to zoom in with lag, and it takes 10 years

Re: 6.8 is coming.
Yes i have a request, as i said over MSN; make it so wherever you place a flag you have 10-15 "prediction" ghost flags after the flag, (every frame ofc)
that's it, kthx do it

Re: 6.8 is coming.
AS = actionscript = coding language
AS2 is what it is now and is easier, but AS3 has a lot less lag which is why mhenr is working on it.
Also, by crash resistance does it mean that Bosh cant fall of his sled as easy or the computer wont crash?
And, all the lines in this post begin with A.
Awesome.

All that we need is:
- Everything 6.7 had
-MAJOR lag reduction
-a non-buggy copy/cut/paste thingy.

Wow great work Mhen. At the moment I can't think of any other features to add.
@People saying "No copy/paste tool" Shut up. You don't have to use it, or watch the videos where people used it.
