Brainstorm Ideas for COTM January

Also, sorry for storming off in a huff. I need to keep a better sense of perspective. I think I'll be more selectively active from now on, and stop taking it upon myself to respond to everything. I've been working on the contest movie and learning final cut express and it's looking pretty sweet, I'll have it released on Jan. 1st if I get the PC recordings from Rafael in time. I'll keep running MOTW and the community scenery project and video of the week, but I decided I can put my time to better use than arguing with people and posting everywhere.

Here's my idea. We have a maze contest, but instead of speed being the goal, less lines are the goal. So the challenge is to get to the end using the fewest lines. We'd probably need a longer and more complex maze than the December one so we wouldn't have ties.

Also, I still like my old idea of the height challenge and distance challenge - nothing fancy, just a tunnel straight up and a horizontal line, both with a workspace - it would be a kind of dual COTM with two winners.

Reminder that whatever we do will be blind, meaning nobody is allowed to upload a video or share a record until entries are closed. (.sols and/or videos would be PMed to the contest runner in order to enter before they are uploaded)

I think the 'least lines' idea is the best, however it would have to be mostly gravity because if there were ground lines (which aren't green) you could just leave it to flatsled for ages until bosh got to the end. I would love to see this contest actually, a very good idea ^^

I thought of something to fix that. The tiebreaker would be speed, so if you had two tracks with the same linecount, the faster one would win

i can see it now, massive lines crossing accross the entire track.

^that, but i do like the sound of the short lines and the height/drop challenge.

not if it's a complex claustrophobic maze. obviously we wouldn't just have two boxes and a line, then everyone would have one line lol

actually, there are parts horizontal lines at the beginning that people will probably just let him coast and slooooooowly move across them - like the lower right tunnel and the very beginning, if you see what I mean. Maybe change the lines easily subject to that to acceleration lines in the wrong direction?

I don't know how I can help that, because people will just draw a line over it. If you get on MSN we could discuss about it more easily ^^

^ yes, but that will add one to their linecount... which they are trying to keep low...

also, make the number of lines in the maze a nice round number like a multiple of 10.

Yeah my idea sucks, rabid's idea is great.

If you two (rabid and raf) can knock out the kinks in that maze that rabid mentioned, I think it'll be a great & fair contest.

I fixed it and the maze is exactly 100 lines
