Re: Round #2 - Poll #4
I'm amazed (and if I'm being real here, frustrated) that archaeology is doing so much better than driftwood.
Here's what I said about these tracks last round:
Silhouette - Not terribly exciting but good execution of a cool concept. √
Gospel - I love parts of it, but not quite coherent enough to get my vote this round. X
Uncertainty Principle - I like the flow, but that's not really enough for my vote in this round. X
Catgroove - I really enjoy the structure of this track and some of those music sync moments are great, even if it is sloppy in places. √
Tapeworm - Really nice execution of a cool concept. √
Metropolis Run - More awkward moments in the track than anything else. I spend the majority of the track going "well I guess you could argue that works" and never relaxing. X
Breathtaking Silence - This time around I noticed how well the scenery fits with the track and how much Bosh's movement makes sense with the track. Nothing ever looks odd or confusing and the track scenery fits right into the line art world LRG created 90% of the time. That's really rare in a track. √
Angel - I really enjoy the progression in this track, the structure of the whole thing, and the fearlessness involved in putting 5 minutes of slow track before it picks up in pack. IMO this track is vastly underrated. √
Blue Champion - Can't bring myself to vote for it being unfinished. X
Retrograde - All around excellent concept/execution/presentation. I accidentally watched the whole color replay (the only track that has done that to me in round 2 so far). √
Boogie - I really dig the flow and the creativity in this track. Probably my favorite in the tournament. I also love that thing that looks like a pinch but isn't, and the creative and fun recycling. √
Forbidden - An omnitrack with random sections of random length. Hard for me to enjoy watching. (I realized the other day that I wish Finalize 2.0 was here instead of this or HN2). X
- Spoiler:
- It's 5 years older and was made in a rush job for ToC3, and driftwood had about twice the amount of work put into it
Here's what I said about these tracks last round:
- Spoiler:
- Silhouette
GospelI really enjoy the concept of this track and I think it was executed really, really well. It still feels surprisingly fresh to me today.
Uncertainty PrincipleThis really feels like a different track after the music sync was decided. A lot of it feels generic to me, but it is fun and enjoyable for me to watch, there are some clever moments, and I dig the ending.
Catgroovethis track has a flow that clicks with me
TapewormSome parts of this have always felt sloppily executed to me, but I greatly admire and appreciate the ambition, especially at the long drop.
Metropolis Runexperimentation with a new style, and in the process there are some really fun moments.
Breathtaking SilenceGlaring unscened sections, the first half looks so flat and the curves make very little sense, and the second half has large swaths of blank space. I think this was the worst possible track choice for a scenery attempt in Line Rider history
AngelThis track is like a freight train. Most impressive track of all time if you're asking me. And it's really accessible too. I wish that it had something to say besides a loud and clear message of "I am the best, you can't touch this".
Blue ChampionThis track is friggin LONG. And it really holds together as a cohesive whole
Retrogradeunfinished but it did have a good vision of what it was trying to accomplish.
Boogiereally great concept, really great execution, really great presentation, really great opening and ending. Really nice track.
ForbiddenI dig the flow. It's still really really fast paced for my non quirker eyes but the stop and go is slow enough and dramatic enough that I can see what is happening. And there are some moments that strike me as quite creative.I always come up with utter apathy towards this track. I watched it three times and every single time I realized about 60% through that I had been thinking about something else and not actually watching the track for the last minute.
