Changes to Contest of the Month

Due to the dwindling number of entries for CotM, I am going to change a few things for how it is run.

1) I am going to decide on the type of contest by myself, which means no more brainstorm threads

2) If there is a low amount of entries for a particular month (i.e less than 2) that contest will be cancelled. Contest will not extend over multiple months because I don't think extending the deadline will make more people want to enter.

3) Deadlines will now be the final day of each month. This means if a poll is required, the poll will take place during the next month while the next contest is being run.

4) Each contestant will send their .sol file to me, which means there will be no requirement for the entrant to do any recording of their own track, hopefully making it easier for entries to come in.

I'm hoping these changes will inspire more people to enter, increase the amount of fun it will be to compete, and make it easier to keep track of each contest and easier for people to enter.

Thanks for taking initiative on this; hopefully CotM will be back in full force when these changes are implemented. You're doing a great job running it, I wholeheartedly support these revisions.

I just want to inform people that AC and I discussed (and by discussed I mean I said stuff and he didn't object) that from next month on, mini contests will be more like making small tracks and stuff like that, whereas contest of the month will focus on things that can have a running leaderboard throughout the month, such as races etc.

Just letting people know those are the plans. In response to concerns about the time it takes to do the R&E for contests, remember that CotM doesn't require that, all I need is the .sol of your entry, and that is how it is going to stay. Dunno if that's how AC wants to run his, but that's the gist of everything at the moment.

(@AC if I misinterpreted your non-response to that message, please correct my mistakes)

I half agree and half don't. I think we should have a general brainstorming thread so that people can submit their ideas, but I'm cool with you being supreme idea decision overlord.

I had a little help deciding on this, but it came down to the fact that I don't want there to be a poll where a cruddy contest will be forced to be run, because that has happened a couple times. I can agree with your opinion though, I will likely implement that.
Good news is so far there has been a healthy number of entries for all the contests this month, I'm glad people are accepting the new changes and/or were threatened enough by your "let's do stuff" thread These contests are really good for getting people to release tracks, which everyone likes (even if they are short ones)
