Scenery Question. Empty Scenery Question.

Post by Brandon971 Sat Apr 02, 2011 10:03 pm

What is splitting? I've heard people use it in terms of scenery. And I thought it might pertain to me because I'm making a scenery track. I think it has something to do with reducing lag. I would like to know because my track is only 10 seconds long and has 4000 lines.

Splitting a track is usually used in longer tracks with a [censored] ton of scenery.

Basically, let's treat this line as your track, and let's treat black spaces as scenery spots

Splitting a track involves scening one part at a time, in different save files

▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓____________________________

_____________▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓_______

________________________________▓▓▓▓▓▓

Then, after recording all the different parts, they are combined with video editing to seem as though they are one track

EDIT: Ok, since we all have different monitors here, those lines probably won't match up, but you get the picture, right?
EDITEDIT: I forgot to add, there has to be some overlap to make the transition between them seem smoother
EDITEDITEDIT: Dammit, you know what? Just ignore me if this is wrong, I don't even scene things, wtf am I doing?

yeah, WTB is right Smile

Just don't forget the overlaps..and tracks that come back to a certain spot can be tricky at times.

there are different methods of splitting from what i recall, but they all involve only scening certain parts of the track.

from what i can tell you can record them all together and them overlap all of them in sony vegas or something. this is usually fastest but can lead to motion blur. i may be wrong there.

the more professional way is to actually cut and paste the videos together. but I'm not sure how this is done entirely.

HKay's tut is great, but sometimes it gets really complex. Like for the community scenery project we're scening dacite, and it has a good deal of space recycling.

You have to "frame" the space out that you're going to scene (drawing lines that go along the very edges of the screen in play mode in the way you plan to record it) so that you have a full map of the space you need to scene, and then you have to start from one end and sweep across the entire track - sometimes your splits will have to be quite a bit larger than the size of the frame HKay has.

I really need to finish my scenery tutorial .-.
