Offbeat by Anton
Here is another strange, little release.
Original version
Alternative version
The text says something like:
- I present my 1 year anniversary track.
- Why not face left?

- Comment (also spoiler alert):
- I flipped the video because it would not make a difference to someone who has no previous experience with line rider. Kinda makes you think about how tight of a niche we have become, considering the flipped version is almost unwatchable..

Oh god, this track is so good at conveying unease. I feel this real sense of something being off-kilter, and it merges so well with the concept of a constantly compressed bosh.
What also makes this so effective is that bosh is now facing right to left. I definitely think this video is applicable here:
Such a great conceptual track. I love what you're doing here. Keep it going, dude, I fuckin' love this.

I feel like when I watch it with Bosh facing left, this is what quirk feels like for someone who has never experienced line rider before. Frenetic and insanely confusing. I can't even tell he's a guy on a sled.
I feel like I should flip all my videos backwards and watch them to see what my friends and family see when I show them my tracks.
EDIT: awesome video OTDE, I had no idea but that is super cool

Re: Offbeat by Anton
This is your best track to date. Not only are your ideas cool as heck, but the track itself is awesome! Flow, style, sync, speed all make a really unique and enjoyable experience. Your style is so fresh and I love it.
Also it's not just everyday flow. You manage to combine speed, tension and the song in a way I haven't seen before. This track is like a mix of High Notions, WTM, WTK, and Interrobang. It's weird but it works so, so well. I'd have given this a Holy Shoe.

This, for me, was a classic example of how one large idea can make you almost completely miss another large idea until the track is almost over. Because he was facing left the whole time, I totally missed the fact that he was in squishy position for the entire track until the very end, which was a little off-putting. That being said, it doesn't take away from the fact that this is easily one of my favorite recent releases, and the amount of creativity you were able to use with only a handful of positions is amazing. Good job!

I'm absolutely amazed by this track. Crouching quirk, I loved the offbeat/onbeat concept.
I'll give my thumbs to Chuggers so he can get you more thumbs up.

I couldn't actually tell what was wrong with it for a little while, but it was messing with me for sure. I really liked it. The squishy idea was really cool and it worked really good.

Re: Offbeat by Anton
fantastic track tho!
I did something similar to make an "uneasey" atmosphere for a preview way back when, and I think I got the idea from someone else (pure, maybe lukking) https://youtu.be/C0kAvl2ZqKw EDIT: But not nearly to this extent, your track is next level dawg

It works well because it's weird
One thing that stood out to me that I haven't seen mentioned is the parts where Bosh is glued to the lines, even if the lines are connected at really sharp lines. Brings line riding back into Line Rider
also I think we're starting to take music sync for granted

Re: Offbeat by Anton
Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on this despite recording. Whoops. Sorry about not turning off f.lux, btw.
Probably the thing I like the most about your tracks is that despite having this common theme (squishy here, no rotation in static, stuff like that) you still manage to bring a lot of variety. You've got squishy sections that are more compact and ones that are fast and linear, and I appreciate that. It keeps the track constantly entertaining because you don't know what you're in for next. There's a lot of great moments in the track that I loved, like the kramual push out of nowhere at 1:11 or that downwards segment at 1:40-ish which just looks so awesome with the camera, not to mention those line granuals with sudden angle changes. And because a ton of this stuff is a bit unconventional and out of the blue, it just works so well together. I really enjoyed everything.
Did I mention music sync? Hot damn. Speaking of music, I gotta get on that death grips re-edit sometime.

Thanks a bunch! This is exactly what I wanted to convey. someone who hasn't experienced line rider before won't have a bias towards which way he faces, giving the "what's going on?"-effect. It seems my attempt at observing line rider through a different lens was successfull, which I am super stoked about.Rabid wrote:I feel like when I watch it with Bosh facing left, this is what quirk feels like for someone who has never experienced line rider before. Yeah, was afraid this might happen! mirroring the track is something I've thought about doing it since <create new track>, but I didn't feel right doing it on that. This was not intended to be mirrored before i started work on the last 30 seconds. If I released tracks more frequently, they wouldn't have been merged into the same track, but I am overall satisfied, as combining the two really underlined the whole "from an unbias prespective"-concept. This needed to be pointed out, thanks!Bropal wrote:Because he was facing left the whole time, I totally missed the fact that he was in squishy position for the entire track until the very end, which was a little off-putting. Those parts took such a long time, and were super demotivating. simply tedious. instead of pulling a certain contact point every other frame, i am pulling and all of them in every frame!because of how line rider works, that means I can't have the same angle two frames in a row, which means I had to add a small as possible amount of angle to every line. Will give you that silky smooth chain though, so I ain't complaining (alot).Conundrummer wrote:

There is something freeing about working with a theme. I don't have to fear if the tricks I make are the best, because I can hide behind the fact that I have limited myself. As a result, you'll see alot of things that wouldn't necessarily make it into a track that doesn't have a theme like this.Brothuss wrote:Probably the thing I like the most about your tracks is that despite having this common theme (squishy here, no rotation in static, stuff like that) you still manage to bring a lot of variety. Short list of why themes are awsome:
- unconvential tricks
- You have to make new tricks to maintain a sense of variation
- You can always justify having some not-so-great sections, which in turn relieves the pressure of standards you've set for yourself
- Instant feature (prank, not prank)
- Gives structure
- As long as the theme is original, the track will be original
- Wtk is a themed track
list could go probably go on if I gave it more thought!

I have to thank you all for the overwhelmingly positive feedback. I am very happy you guys enjoyed it, and it really motivated to get a move-on with my projects. So there is that. Thanks again
