[mini] COTM #33 minimalist

Just going ahead and creating this. Easy rules, extremely easy to make an entry! Go go go!

Rules:
- Create a small track with max 100 blue lines, max 100 red lines* and max 100 green lines** So in total max 300 lines.
- You can specify zoom level & type of recording.
- You can specify music syncing wishes. (Send the song & offset)
- Alternatively, if you wish, you are allowed to handle the recording & editing yourself.
- No length limitations***. Simply do your best to make an entry that you enjoyed making and would love to share & compete with!

How to enter:
Send your entry to me via a PM by end of day May 1st. This can be either:
- a .sol + recording & editing specifications*** if you have any or
- a .sol + video file

* LRA's special 2x and 3x red lines are NOT allowed. (Not to be confused with line-boosting, which is allowed.)
** LRA's special feature of choosing a different width of green lines is NOT allowed
*** Recording & Editing handled by Rabid for tracks up to 2:00 minute in length.

Additional Details:
Winner will be decided via a poll of all entries (most votes wins).

Rabid has kindly agreed to help out with the recording & editing of entries up to 2:00 minutes in length and will create the compilation entry video. Entries will be shown in order of length (shortest entries first).

Yours truly will be making an entry as well. I won't be looking at any of the entries send to me until I finished mine. So make sure you don't go over the line-count!

Default will be LRJS smoothcam. You can request classic cam or LRA and any specifics upon submission to ZNF if you wish, and he will pass them along to me.

I'll definitely be entering. Can we have less than 100 red and/or blue lines if we wish, as well as green?

are the various sizes of green lines allowed? I'm assuming not, because of the red line policy.

@rabid Thanks! And yes, less lines is allowed. I'll change the wording to try and make it clearer. I'll also include the fact people can pass on recording specifications.

I've update the rules to include everything we discussed, as well as mentioned that it's fine for people to create their own recordings and editing, if they so wish. Would save you some time if anyone would do so, and it's a simple cut & paste job to include it in the final video. Hope that's okay with you

Like Rabid said, line-boosting is allowed.

I was initially also a bit confused by this rule (Sheldon used it for Impasse), but it's essentially to level the playing field for both LRA & LRJS users (i.e. to not give LRA users an advantage). I'll update the rules to be clearer.

Is there a time limit, or can you make it as long as you want within the restraints of 300 lines? I'm worried we may have some amazingly boring entries if we let it go for as long as we want.

I think I'll probably just say if it's obviously a troll entry I'll just speed it up and/or put it last.

Good point!

First off I'd like to say I hope nobody will create any "troll" entries. I wish everybody to do their best and create something that they feel stands a chance at competing. Something they hope other people will enjoy watching or something that will challenge our beliefs, something that makes us think and not something to just annoy people or for "funsies".

I just discussed this with Rabid, as he is doing the recording & editing, and we've agreed that the contest won't have a time limit.

However, rabid will only handle recording & editing for tracks up to 2:00 minutes in length. In case you have the artistic vision and skill to create something captivating that is longer of length, you'll have to handle the recording & editing yourself (or find someone willing to do it for you, which could still be rabid if it's really awesome. I'll leave that up to his discretion). And that entry will still be edited into the final entries video.

Moreover, we've decided that the way we will want to structure the compilation video is to have the shorter entries shown first. This way any troll entries would definitely be at the end of the video (hopefully making the overall video possible to watch without skipping entries in between).

I hope that will be sufficient to deter people from making troll entries

I worked for about 5 hours on my entry today and it is positively killing me that I can't tell anyone anything about it.

I've put in about 6 hours on mine, then I deleted the whole thing. I really want to capture line rider, but I want to do it in such a minimal way.

New to LRA, how do I get the line count for each color type of line?

There isn't a way to get line count for each type in LRA or LRJS. I have taken to exporting a .sol and loading it up in 3.4.X to check.

Hmm yeah, didn't realize that myself either. That's kind of a pity. Anyhow, I'm sure we'll all manage to keep to the rules one way or another!
