Every time you show how far along you are in that track, I am just amazed.

are you experiencing lag at all? I would love a short summary of your experiences working with such a big project

Re: Rabid Previews
I've been using LRJS since about the 9 minute mark, switched from LRA around April 2016. I got a really nice new computer last August, (replacing the one I made Archaeology and Driftwood on) which runs at 40fps up until about 6-8k lines in flash 3.4.x, and the largest save I can open in 6.y2k (120k, a merged save of Transcendental lol) runs at 6-8fps. Before I got the new computer I had had zero lag problems in LRJS (though I had numerous problems with music sync and choppiness in LRA, probably because I was running it on a mac through mono)Anton wrote:are you experiencing lag at all? I have been experiencing a bit of consistent choppiness while I'm streaming to twitch since I got to about 30 or 40 minutes in runtime, mildly annoying but nothing debilitating (and I could probably close skype and some of the 20+ Chrome tabs I have open to solve some of it). I also had a similar amount of mildly annoying lag in a previous section that had about 2 minutes of some space recycling stuff. I've also had a few instances of getting some moderate lag for no good reason that was fixed when I refreshed LRJS, and a couple instances of unexpected crashing, but that's over about 200 hours of work sooooo very rare. When I load the track in LRJS it loads fast but the 52 minute music file takes a while (maybe a minute), and when I drag the scrub bar to the end it takes a while to load the 40+ minutes of frames (maybe 2 minutes) so to avoid the ~4 minutes of setup I often just leave the LRJS tab open. I know that the linerider.com build has a better engine, so these problems may be solved with it but it doesn't have the UI features I need so it's not really helpful.
I also am starting to get the graphical "jitters" that come from Bosh being far away from the start point (according 3.4.x line length feature Bosh is ~1.7 million px from the start). Not really noticeable unless you zoom in a lot though.

Re: Rabid Previews
Maybe in some ways? Plenty of quirk tracks made in 6.7 took 400-500 hours of work, and this track is probably not even going to break 250. But I guess in terms of sheer length? Though I recently made an 11 minute track that only took like 2 days to make so that feels like an odd way to judge it as well. You could wonder if it has the most lines of any naked track, and this would have been the case but for Anemoia by HP which I believe has 40k, and I can't add "non-pencil" because this track actually has a bunch of use of the pencil tool as well (EDIT: Sheldon pointed out that HAM has upwards of 10k which is an even better example). My point is, the only solid judge I have is hours of work and while it's probably the most time I've personally spent on a LR track, I get blown away by say, Jam by Rafael (~400-500 hours).Chuggers wrote:Easily the biggest feat in linerider history
My personal favorite way to evaluate LR is through an artistic lens, and whether or not it's a successfully accomplished feat through that lens is a subjective matter everyone will have to decide for themselves once they watch it.

If I am not mistaken HAM has 120k, but I don't think that counts.rabid squirrel wrote:Maybe in some ways? I appreciate this concept, but the sheer scope of this track is undeniably unmatched, regardless of how many lines or how many hours it takes you. Plus, I do definitely believe because of the way you perceive and use linerider due to your vast exposure to the concepts at hand (stemming from a command of the history of the game's development), corresponds hand in hand with the next portion you say:
Complimentary usage to output I believe creates a vast increase in track production. Like you get stuff done in record time with remarkable efficiency. For what you want to do and how you like playing, you make your shit confidently and unimpeded.
I definitely think I have my own artistic vision for the game, but nonetheless see it as an art form. That's how I describe it to people so they don't just automatically assume I'm crazy for my obsession. I mean it's respectable that way, at the very least. Fake it till you make it, bois

Re: Rabid Previews
sheldon you're right that's an even better example of how linecount in bare tracks doesn't mean as much as it used to
Dap - As far as "confidently and unimpeded" goes, there's a lot of inner setbacks and turmoil that I don't talk about on here (for probably obvious reasons). But I'm doing my best to get there and I'm glad I come off that way because it means I'm overcoming my demons somewhat.
As far as "remarkable efficiency" I feel like Chuggers from example (or kramwood when he was making things) is regularly more efficient, in that he makes what he wants to make relatively quickly. I took 16 months with numerous hiatuses to make this thing that TBH could have been made in 1-2 months if I had the drive to work on it like a full time job. I could be wrong but I find it strange that you're complimenting my efficiency so I had to comment on it.
anyway, 2 mins 23 seconds left so that's exciting

Re: Rabid Previews
Well, to me, anybody giving themselves to their art is going to catch my attention and give me cause for appreciation (especially when it means that they're overcoming demons in the process.)
I've only recently begun to understand what art itself is and as a result, I've come to appreciate the artists here much more.
That being said, I feel like it's only weird because until now I haven't said anything about it because I haven't really noticed. And just because there are people more efficient than you doesn't mean that you're not very efficient. I don't take hiatuses into account when calculating efficiency; only time spent actually in front of the game grinding. So.
Anyway, I'm excited to see this completed.

Very excited, I am also curious, what a track of this size would look like after loading it in beta 2. You know the whole spread.
