Unbound - What went on?
I left the community around the time that LR2:UB was getting seriously hyped up by InXile - they had TechDawg releasing videos and to be honest, everything was looking really promising. These days, everybody who alludes to it has a tone of distain and contempt for it. The only mention of it on the forum is LR2 tracks, a subforum for non-conformists.
My question is...why? what happened when it came out? What did the communities do to accommodate it? When did the members reject it and why? And how did the relationship between TD and InXile collapse? I would have thought it was one of the most exciting things to happen to LR and it seems to have been shot down in flames by everybody that played it.
I'm just curious as to what happened!

Re: Unbound - What went on?
unbound was catered to kids and did not retain the spirit of line rider

Re: Unbound - What went on?
Also, the trampoline lines were extremely cheap, and it didn't have a Mac version, and the quirk-related physics stuff was terrible.
However, we're going to be getting another non-Flash version of LR pretty soon (hopefully), this one made by mhenr, so stick around.
EDIT: Wait, you're Wishline. You know that. *slaps forehead*

I'd say the main difference is that Unbound is a game, and Line Rider is a toy.

Interesting - did it have some sort of off-putting goals or winning conditions, then?

Yeah, it had levels where you had to get to a certain point and stuff.

Did IRtL plan to shift away from Beta 2 initially, or to accommodate both? Or were expectations of the game so low that everybody said 'Meh' and got back to their knitting?

Re: Unbound - What went on?
as it got closer to release people started having doubts. then, the release got botched. there was a crappy DRM and it was only released in the US.
people just ignored it.

Hey Mhenr (good to see you again btw! ) - didn't you say that you knew there was a reason why LR2:U was bad which wasn't InXile's fault? Are you able to shed any light on what you meant?

Re: Unbound - What went on?
The only thing I liked about the game where the levels, new lines and tricks you could do, which were not bad. More likely it was the difference between LR2 and Beta 2. The story mode seemed like it was for kids and like Hedge said, the quirk physics sucked.
Over all, the game became a bit popular for a while and so did line rider, which was on McDonald's commercials, which made people go play line rider. Then as LR2 began to get boring so did line rider a bit, it still is popular, but people are leaving and some are coming back. Now LR2 is dead, due to the inactive and lame pyhsics of the game and still line rider is losing and getting people back.

Re: Unbound - What went on?
I liked it, actually. Not as Line Rider.
I viewed it as a completely separate game because it had too many differences to it.
But it was relatively enjoyable to play on anything that was not PC.
Like DS.
I tried it on PC, and it sucked [censored].

Re: Unbound - What went on?
I was actually in progress of making an all trampoline track, where it's pretty much quirk except 5 times faster and 10 times more spastic, but later I went "[censored] it".

Re: Unbound - What went on?
Being honest - I'm surprised that LR2 didn't take of more if all the quirking was still doable like that!

Re: Unbound - What went on?
It's... really not the same. Anyone who quirks can see it very clearly. Yes, it could probably still be entertaining, but it's not the same at all.

Re: Unbound - What went on?
1. quirks were a LOT easier, as I understand it, in LR2. (while manuals were a lot harder because the physics was sloppy and floppy)
2. targeted at children
3. attempted to make a profit
4. more centered around levels and beating the game
5. stupid annoying soundtrack, random repetitive yodeling of Bosh, just generally annoying
6. It lagged worse than Beta 2
7. trampoline lines = bosh can made the wildest movements you wanted, without EVER crashing (impossible to crash with trampoline lines)
8. only in US
9. there was no straight line tool, only a curve tool. thus, extra clicks to draw a straight line. Stupidity.
10. terrible graphics, bugs
11. the plot was not only childish but impossibly cliche and really, really stupid
12. no way to collab
13. import/copypaste features, fill tool, clip art, made line art of Beta 2 less rewarding and more difficult
14. White Background, "classic Bosh" were UNLOCKABLES - you couldn't start with them you had to beat the game first. You were stuck with stupid snow background and ugly commercialized Bosh 2.0
15. lots more pointless features added in general
