Interesting Observation
Hello guys,
Since I've been back I've noticed something about the community which could be looked on quite positively.
Simply look at the 'Who's online' section!
Looking at just that - that looks like quite a healthy forum, all those people online etc etc. Where things start going wrong is that all these people seem to be viewing the index and posting nothing. All these old members saying nothing at all. What are they waiting for?
This forum isn't dying...it's mute!
What does this mean? I think that before we can pull in many new members, we need to get something out of the old ones. I think there's simply need for more discussion - if you post a thread around here, people will come to it, so that's really encouraging. What we need to know is - what would tempt these established members out of mute lurking.
I think, if we try and do that, the forum becomes more active and more welcoming if people choose to join!
Please, if you're one of these mute veterans, come out of hiding and say something!

I think that more people need to be online at 6 AM to have conversations with me during my all-nighters.

That's members who viewed the page in the past 24 hours, but yeah, it's still a pretty good number.

The mute-er people of this forum are being careful with their words. Unnecessary posts usually lead to unnecessary drama or spam. :]
I keep my posts meaningful and minimal.
Usually. Depends on my mood.

The veterans have run out of new, exciting things to say after having been here for 4-5 years. That is, unless you want us to say, "So yeah, how about that Line Rider game? Pretty cool eh?" We rely on the things that new people say, new changes, new tracks, etc. When there aren't many new things to talk about, there's no talking. And there's nothing to be changed, because we've become pretty good at this whole forum thing. We're also really good at arguing about trivial things.
Also, sometimes I think a thread is just asinine, and I won't post in it because I want it to die.

Re: Interesting Observation
I don't think its the topics, but more likely how the site looks. We could try changing up the colors and stuff on this site. Maybe if we change it up a bit people will be online more often. Or we could try getting a new site like we tried last year, if people will actually do something. Plus what happened to the IRTL domain, I thought we were, possibly going to buy that from techdawg.

Re: Interesting Observation
Stallie, are you retarded? Making the thread a different color isn't going to get the old members to start talking again. I don't know why you think it would. While a different theme might get newer members to stay a bit longer, the old members certainly won't start posting just because the site turned to red instead of blue.
Back on topic: What I feel we need is something that the old members can relate to. If we could find something with so much nostalgia that they HAVE to post something, then we might be on the right track with this (No pun intended).

Re: Interesting Observation
1. This site will always focus on Line Rider, or it will cease to exist.
2. As long as we are on this site, the skin's not changing (unless someone gives me a sound argument for why we should, what we should change it to and why, and how exactly I should change it - since I am clueless about installing skins )
3. I consider that a cool thing that people don't feel the need to spam the forum to stay "active" - I think the problem is we're not posting more tracks. If posting skyrockets but track postings stay the same, I would consider that worse than where we are now.

Re: Interesting Observation
Hmm, I think that the reality of the situation is if people created more threads and points of discussion - even if that requires something a little controversial or debate-y.
More competitions, more tracks, more discussion.
...And particularly more unexperienced members who need help and training. That'd be the perfect cure for muteness. The question is...how...

If I were an admin, I'd feel the need to clear it with you guys before saying something like that, or I'd have to put "/joking" or even "/semijoking" at the end. It's just a little freedom that makes up for not being able to chill in the staff lounge anymore, that's all.rabid squirrel wrote:what?

I already have something to help that. I made a tutoring thread a while back, but in terms of whether people are still working with their partner, I have no idea.

Re: Interesting Observation
That was the last 24 hours like cereal said.
To be honest that isn't much. I mean I suppose you could consider it pretty good for how small of a forum we are.

sheesh, you felt that uptight just by being an admin? Have you seen some of the threads AC has made?Hedgehogs4Me wrote:If I were an admin, I'd feel the need to clear it with you guys before saying something like that, or I'd have to put "/joking" or even "/semijoking" at the end.
