The Old Rush
Hey, just a little musing on returning to say hi to a community like this.
I remember what it was like to be a fourteen year old on IRtL...actually clearly as anything I remember my name in the 'Welcome to our newest member' slot. It was so. Exciting. Talking to all these people who knew a lot about what I was interested in. I found the community quite warm and friendly as a whole.
I particularly remember the old rush - coming home from school every night, I would log on to a forum full of the day's and evening's bustle and activity and I loved it. "I wonder what's going on !". A little rush of excitement each time.
Also, that little jumpy feeling of getting a PM was also quite memorable. Especially when it was a staff member. Even though it didn't take me long to realise they're not actually all that scary.
I wonder if - and to what extent - that old excitement is still there in today's new and old members.
Did you ever feel that buzz I'm describing? Do you still? Or do you think I'm rambling? Perhaps it's old nostalgia getting to me.

I would've if I could remember my "youth".
Only thing I remember was LRC, Rabid and MrWaffles responding to my introduction thread. (Which I made 1 month into)

Re: The Old Rush
I used to get that rush feeling back when I was 9 years old and browsing through the forums, searching for whatever new trick was just invented and how to do it.

Dude when I first came here I just made a big summary paragraph about improving this site, and here we are a year later in the same place. As for the old rush feeling, no, I didn't really felt like that until we got the stream, but I did feel welcomed.

When I first joined IRtL, I always got excited when it saw "You have 1 New Rep comment".
Then I realize it's a -rep from tlbs saying "n00b".
Then I cry.
For weeks.

I still get a rush when I get PMs, but other than that I just treat it like I would any conversation with a good group of friends, since that's pretty much what you guys are to me. An extention of friends that I can say anything to anyone without being judged.

Re: The Old Rush
I get a rush when I finish a track or video and release it
it sounds kind of sad to me that people get a rush from something like getting a PM :/

Re: The Old Rush
^ohohoho, you don't even know
I wont even pretend to be well-known, but i remember the simple joy of somebody replying to one of my threads, or getting a compliment on one of my tracks. And PM's from anybody were terrifying. I remember when I got a PM from GG asking me to collab with him, and I freaked out. Then later that week, LRG asked me to collab with him, and I nearly fell out of my chair. Nowadays when something happens I just say something like yeeahh out loud and carry on.

Re: The Old Rush
It's interesting. Certainly as a newcomer to the forum getting a PM is like receiving a text message the first few weeks when you get your first phone ("Yeah, somebody wants to talk to me!").
Everybody likes to be talked to :-)

Re: The Old Rush
It's interesting. Threads like these signpost a distinction between people whose rush comes from the community itself, and people whose rush comes from contributing their projects to it. Two separate but equally important groups.

Well, you don't need a rush in order to do things. Some things are like a spike in pleasure, others are just a habit that you enjoy.WishLine wrote:It's interesting. e.g. I didn't get a rush from replying to this post.
Re: The Old Rush
I still get quite a rush .-.
I get a rush when I post a track and someone comments
I also somehow still get a rush when I get a PM of any sort, it's usually MotW. Ah well...
Though all this usually happens overnight whilst I'm sleeping, damn timezones Still get a rush when I wake up and check WrtL on my iPod

Re: The Old Rush
I take your point, Rabid. Pleasure doesn't have to be electric-shock, it can be gentle-massage too.
Ha, Wolf_Spirit even an admin gets a little surge. Interesting. I wonder about the newcomers...are there many members who've joined up and never seen vB IRtL?
