COTM #6 (August) - Height and Distance Challenge!

August 2011 Contest of the Month: Height and Distance Challenge!

Objective: Launch Bosh the highest and/or furthest.

Rules:

• Do NOT post or publish any .sols or movies until after entries are closed (or you will be disqualified)
  
• You may publish pictures of how far you got, but no pictures of the workspace!
  
• You can only add lines inside the workspace
  
• You cannot move the start point out of the workspace (but feel free to move it wherever you want inside the workspace)
  
• Your score is determined by the furthest line that Bosh passes completely (except for his scarf) while staying on-sled.
  
• Please use flash player 10 so my life will be easier

How to Enter:

• When you finish, PM ME your .sol
  
• You can re-enter as many times as you like if you improve on your entry.
  
• Once entries are closed I will make a results video
  
• I will maintain two leaderboards with each person who entered in order, but not showing their scores

Time Open: Entries close on Thursday, August 25th, 2011

A contest trophy for the winner of the height challenge, and another one for the winner of the distance challenge

EDIT:

IF YOU MAKE IT TO THE TOP, simply extend the two vertical blue lines on the sides, I will compare screenshots of the peak of Bosh's height

Similarly with the distance contest - if you make it to the end add a backwards acceleration line (accelerates to the left) and then I will compare how far they get via screenshots

if I get a .sol where he makes it to the end but neither of these is done, I will just do them myself.

Geezus, do you really expect people (other than aspi) to reach the maximum on those?

the idea is to make it impossible

Then we'll never have the problem of me having to make a new .sol and extend it because someone got to the end

if you have the .sol with the red line, go ahead and delete it, the new .sol doesn't have it

only if other people do well. I'd be surprised if anyone gets halfway to be honest

Also, in case everyone was wondering the distance challenge is all leftward acceleration lines, so if he stays on sled you can get points for him to tumble forward until he stops moving to the right. If he falls off sled your distance is the last frame he is on sled.

splash sent me a height entry .sol but bosh doesn't clear the very first line while staying on sled... not sure if it was made in FP10. will check in a moment.

Also, I made a height entry to get things started. I'm currently winning

Splash sent me another entry for height that works... and he's in second

I'm still winning

Cereal sent me a Pm with both height and distance entries, and he has taken first place in both categories!

I don't really want to give it away if someone makes it to the top... how about this:

That's right @ 1st place.

and I can see Sheldon somehow managing that

stallie entered in both, he's in 3rd place in height and second place in distance.

Sssschiller just entered in both contests. He's in 3rd place for height and 2nd place for distance.

I have lots of ideas about how to make an awesome entry for both now, but I don't want to cheat by using other people's ideas

I think I'll make a sticky thread for this after the contest is over, except people will be able to post .sols and movies and can use each others' ideas, and we can see how we can get the best height and/or distance together!

Actually I think I'll start working on one now, but I won't enter it because I've seen everyone's entries already

You should keep this thread open after the actual contest ends so we can all still compete for the farthest distance, causing more people to be innovative with picking up speed.

Just a thought.

I was already thinking that (as you can see by scrolling up a bit)

Also, sheldon entered the height contest and came in second after Cereal

Also, Cereal re-entered both height and distance, and stayed in first in both ofc

Sheldon improved his height entry, but is still in second.

Sheldon also entered the distance challenge, and is in second there as well.

tldr - Cereal is a beast

overall, the height entries are getting higher than I expected and the distance entries aren't getting as far as I expected.

ofc, the only necessary part is the part that affects bosh...

all entries due in a few days. I'm extending the due date to the 25th because that's when I get back from vacation
