WRTL lifespan? Empty WRTL lifespan?

Post by ScrungleBlumpkus Fri Apr 15, 2016 4:39 pm

The entire website has thousands of posts, with over 20 pages of threads about tracks alone. Doesn't it worry anybody else that, should forummotion fuck up, literally all of that is gone?

Is there a site backup solution?

Short Answer: Yes. I do.

Long Answer:
1) We are losing videos off youtube at a rate that frankly scares me. I go to archive someone and find that videos that I remember watching not long ago are now gone. I am prioritizing the actual line rider content (track videos) above backing up this site.
2) If forumotion were to close their business, I am certain they would give us notice and I would have time to archive things. Forumotion is a company, not a single absent guy who might stop paying the bills without a word and leave us high and dry (I'm referring to TechDawg)
3) Archiving this site will be much quicker and simpler than archiving videos. Crawlers for forumotion exist and I am confident that if I asked someone with coding background to get a crawler to comb the site and send it to me it would be a relatively painless task (organizing the data would be a lot more work but that's what I could do) I plan to do this anyway, (maybe annually) once I am finished with my bigger fish to fry.

Addendum: If anyone else wants to do any archiving, please do so. Don't not do it on my account. I'm only doing it because nobody else is. I'd much rather be actually making tracks.

I agree with Rabid.
I'm not familiar with many tracks that have disappeared
