RETROGRADE- Sheldon
RETROGRADE
Well this is a flatsled track with a twist I suppose.
For battle against Dapianokid and Efrazable, and formerly Kevans.
Huge thanks to OTDE for the amazing editing.
Also, thank you Rabid Squirrel for the wonderful recordings!
Highly recommend Mad Jams Editing! Top notch.

Man this track is so good for the environment.
The thing about flatsled tracks is that you really have to pull off something original for them to stand out and you know you did it with this. I really like this style of manuals from you a lot more than the silhouette kind of stuff, and I'd really like to see a legitimate manuquirk from you some day!

Re: RETROGRADE- Sheldon
I would complain about how I didn't feel like it was 100% a flatsled track but it was just too damn good for me to care. Plus, I don't know how you did it, but it felt like flatsled even when there was an occasional manual. Amazing job.
Re: RETROGRADE- Sheldon
That was amazing. That music sync is what got me. Didn't expect it to flow that well into the color replay. Really nice, and crazy recycling. I'm impressed.

This is amazing, it's like amazing that's how amazing this is
I like how this is the opposite of Quirker's Laboratory, because manuals were allowed in a flatsled track.
Also, can we appreciate every time bosh lineglitches through the column in the middle?

Re: RETROGRADE- Sheldon
great idea for an intro, i really liked that. Also, I love the groll-integration at 0:49 so much
Re: RETROGRADE- Sheldon
This track is really, really well done. You know usually when I make a review it's mostly along the lines of "here are all the things you could have done better" but I don't think this review will be much of that. This review is mostly just going to be MAKE MORE TRACKS WITH OTHER COOL CONCEPTS PLEASE THIS WAS GREAT
And also let OTDE help you with stuff in the future because the title & editing & music & start/end of this track was really great and I don't know how big of a hand he had in it but I know he did have a hand in it. If you make the title something not as cool, make the editing half-assed, make the music something dumb, and get rid of the start and ending that detracts so much from the track that I don't even know if it would have been featured. This is why OTDE and I are always pushing push for presentation of a track as being super duper important, because when it all comes together like this it's so cool.
The intro is so good - I do kind of wish it was actually part of the track but the editing was convincing enough to not break immersion. I don't know why you decided to start the track with a huge airtime & kramual cannon thingy but with the music sync it's probably one of the best intros in Line Rider of all time, and I love how it's not just made in Line Rider but it's actually in the start of the track itself. And how it's like, something that is really modern and you don't see much of. And how you made it into a pillar and did the frame-by-frame green lines. It all just makes it look super cool and it's all totally new. Inb4 we see a lot more intros inspired by what you did here.
I think what makes this track really hypnotizing is, oddly, the same reason Valance is so hypnotizing - the flow is constant and unrelenting. Yes, he recycles everything a zillion times, but the reason this track is so fun to watch is that it's actually hard to tell what is a recycle and what is not - after a while you stop trying to keep track and just sit back and appreciate it. Sort of like some kind of recycling Nirvana, haha.
And then the ending is really awesome too. The Mobius Strip gimmick in its best-realized form - a track that has reached recycling nirvana. It's no longer a fun gimmick, it's something that really resonates with the track as whole. Pity that it needed the zooming in and out effect to make it work though. That could have been solved with a bit more attention to the camera.
I was amazed in the color replay to see some flatsled sections recycled as manuals - that blew my mind. You must need an incredible sense of even pressure and smooth curves to pull that off! And there were barely any stabilizers too! I think this is why the manuals felt like flatsled as rofl said - the pressure was so even that it felt as smooth as high-pressure flatsled no matter what Bosh was doing on the curve. I think the real stroke of brilliance was that when it was low-pressure, instead of recycling it as a low-pressure flatsled you realized you could recycle it as a high-pressure manual, and proceeded to do it with good pressure and very few stabilizers. But also props to you for taking the risk of getting hate for putting manuals in a recycling track. I encourage you to take more risks like this in breaking boundaries even if some people do occasionally dislike the choices you make, because when they work, the payoff is huge, and the track starts feeling somehow transcendent of genre - and that is one of the highest compliments you can give any artist in the modern era. "Transcendent of genre" is something modern artists would put on their gravestone, lol. It just feels like you've made something awesome and fresh and new. And if there is anything you can do really well, it's to take a concept that is a little different and execute it with professionalism.
I also think your attention to aesthetics is top notch, as always. In general, you keep the lines in two categories - track lines which are big smooth curves, always (even when he's in a pinch), and tiny little other lines that work the magic in a near-invisible manner. This really helps with the whole hypnotizing thing a lot - you know I love consistency and so naturally I love how consistent this categorization of different "types" of lines makes the track feel.
I am curious about a few things. I am wondering if this was inspired by AC at all, because it is strikingly similar to Ballcycle in the flatsled recycling and round curves (but like, way better lol), but he wasn't listed in the credits. And second, I am really curious what the hardest part of the track was, because I have no idea, haha. Was it recycling the flatsled as a manual? Lining up the ending?
Really glad to see you release another really awesome solo track after a long period of struggle, and hope to see more from you soon!

AC never really crossed my mind, the speed difference really makes it a whole different realm imo.
Hardest part was bypassing previous stabilizers and making new stabilizers because for some it was the 4th or fifth pass on a curve so I'd have to replay the entire track several times to get the right line.
Lining up the ending was easy, and it would have been great if it would have worked without zooming.. how would you go about doing that?

Re: RETROGRADE- Sheldon
When he falls down the first time, he is moving left and so he's somewhat off to the left on the screen. At the end, he is moving right so he's somewhat off to the right of the screen. If you ended with him moving to the left instead of the right it would have lined up perfectly. Or I could have recorded it with the "fixed" camera setting but people tend to find that disorienting.
also, any reason you can't hit the quote button?

Just realized I never commented on this. Only thing I can say is that whenever I watch this track I'm completely mesmerized and forget about doing stuff. Usually I rewatch it too and then watch some other track (usually one from the inspirations you listed) and realize just how damn good this is. I agree with rabid that the presentation is doing a lot for this track, so kudos to OTDE too, as I saw he also did the mixing of the song? That's awesome! Love this video, one of my favorite videos right now

I took important bits of the song and looped them, and cut out the quiet interlude. This way, the entire presentation felt consistent, constant, and unwavering.

Re: RETROGRADE- Sheldon
I like the idea of this track with an infinite recycle though, it makes sense for the concept. Funny thing is, this was made BEFORE the new tools we have. Sheldon was just dispelling his pent up LR vibes, and made a great track.
Now we can both make this an infinite track and make a recycle track on a whole new level.
I actually want to explore that

I don't think this discussion is relevant to the original thread. If you guys want to start a new discussion related to this track please make a new thread, instead of bumping one that is many months old.
