BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
Preview, will help with explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG_bFlSM3Aw
BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
A three part event, featuring a speed maze, a low linecount maze, and a MASSIVE booty back!
MAIN RULES:
In such a huge COTM featuring three contests, naturally there will be three sub-rule categories. For rules about a specific event, see the corresponding sub-rule.
Between events, there is a freestyle in which contestants are to make their way to the next box. Each freestyle should be less than five seconds; should it be deemed unreasonably long, that contestant will not have their freestyle shown (but in all honesty, anyone could make it to each event within three seconds).
Each event will begin on the first frame of the corresponding save of the .sol, and the start point can be moved to any point within the starting box (without touching the green border).
The final score of each contestant will be based on their performance in each area. Mathematically, scores are found via this equation:
RULES (SPEED):
Go from the box to the finish line without going offsled. Time must be under 20 seconds. Line glitching out of the maze is not allowed. Sorry. Also, the time will start on the first frame of save #2 and end when the last pixel of bosh passes and stops touching the line.
From the finish line, freestyle to event two.
RULES (LOW LINECOUNT):
Go from the box to the finish line without going offsled. Time must be under 15 lines. Line glitching out of the maze is not allowed. Sorry again. The time will start on the first frame of save #3 and end when the last pixel of bosh passes and stops touching the line.
From the finish line, freestyle to event three.
RULES (BOOTY BACK):
Get from the box to very start of the first save without going offsled (even when bosh reaches the start of save #1, he must stall and survive). Time must be under 10 seconds. Line glitching is allowed. The time will start on the first frame of save #4 and end when the last pixel of bosh passes and stops touching a line of the start box. Bosh MUST stall within the box, but the time will stop when bosh passes through the box with the intention of an on-sled stall.
I know that in the preview video, bosh dies a violent off-sled death, but I thought that adding the stall requirement would spice it up.
That's all there is to it! All entries are due Sunday, April 26th at 11:59PM! For those of you wondering why they can't have the whole month, I think that three weeks is plenty of time for an entry.
LEADERBOARD:
1. Gaoyubao
2. Pawel
3. Opal
4. Getthim
5. efraz

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
link? Also, typo in the Linecount part - "TIME must be under 20 lines"
And the freestyle is useless strategy wise, right? Because you have to restart with a new save for each event.

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
1. is each part a separate save?
2. what is the point of the freestyle?
3. How do you determine an overall winner/leaderboard?

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
great questions, thanks
yep, and each save is labeled to the corresponding eventrabid squirrel wrote:1. is each part a separate save?
i intend to show each entry in one clip, so the freestyle will act as both a cool transition between events and a chance to show of some creative stuff.2. what is the point of the freestyle?
the equation in my post will determine a score, high score = winner3. How do you determine an overall winner/leaderboard?

And your screenshots are often private or otherwise the urls don't work.gaoyubao wrote:download link? Also, typo in the Linecount part - "TIME must be under 20 lines"

hopefully fixed, thanks!gaoyubao wrote:And your screenshots are often private or otherwise the urls don't work.gaoyubao wrote:download link? Also, typo in the Linecount part - "TIME must be under 20 lines"
i hope the confusion doesn't discourage entries though!

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
Just want to remind people to please NOT:
- post screenshots, videos, etc. of your entries
- talk about your score/linecount/time
- talk about the methods you used
- stream any part of the contest (with the possible exception of the freestyle section - up to efraz)

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
So what is the save #1 for? Is it just freestyle to event 2? And you can move bosh anywhere in the green box for the events, correct?

correct on all counts!shua wrote:So what is the save #1 for? Is it just freestyle to event 2? And you can move bosh anywhere in the green box for the events, correct?
Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
The goal of event 2 isn't to get the fewest lines, but to minimize T/10+L, where T is time and L is the linecount, am I right?

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
^I was getting the vibe that the ratio between linecount and speed is the goal. Like, if you have to use a lot of lines to make a short time, it's worse than few lines to get a slower time.

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
This is correct, but I feel as though this puts far too much emphasis on the time of event two. To counteract this, I WILL BE ADJUSTING THE FORMULA. STAY TUNED.Pawel3 wrote:The goal of event 2 isn't to get the fewest lines, but to minimize T/10+L, where T is time and L is the linecount, am I right?
EDIT: Here's the new formula. Not only is the time for event two less significant, but still somewhat desireable, but the perfect (impossible) score will add up to 100, as well as each event being equally relevant to your score.

Simplifies to C - ( 1.6T1 + 2.1L2 + 0.1T2 + 3.2T3 ), where C is some constant
It means that T2 is almost meaningless. I'm guessing efraz didn't remove it in order to deal with troll entries which take minutes to finish

don't think too much about it. just know that, using this equation, all three events are weighted the same for the score, so do your best!
Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
Opal just submitted one hell of an entry to snag first place! Will he reign for the remainder of the contest?
Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
the only event you stall after is the booty back, the third event, on the #4 save. The time for event three stops when Bosh enters the box fully, but bosh must stall within the box.Pawel3 wrote:do you have to stall in the maze?
Also I just got a couple more entries, but I'm not on my computer right now. Will update tomorrow.

Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
Actually both of my PM's were just questions about the contest. No new entries.
Re: BOSH OLYMPICS - APRIL COTM #27
I lost mine! I did the maze and line count and was half way through the last part when it vanished and I don't know where to or how. Oh well, I know what my scores would have been, I can make it faster. I have to start over or it would have been submitted like 3 days ago.
