We often talk about how we've been focusing on technical tracks. However, we've failed to distinguish the two types of technique.

Eden 2 is technical in its performance. It's analogous to a virtuosic Romantic-era piece, full of impressive stunts, flares, and arguably emotion.

Most technical tracks end up being technical in performance. The best end up being emotionally provocative, and that's how Eden 2 came so far, despite its flaws.

The Well Tempered Manual is technical in its composition. It's analogous to its namesake, a sophisticated Baroque-era fugue (actually a series). It's not flashy, but there is substantial depth. At a glance, it seems like a series of "here's this manual" and "here's that manual", like how fugues sound like a uniform stream of notes. As a result, it doesn't quite grab your attention like performance-oriented tracks. However, take a closer look, and you'll start seeing how the structure was created so intentionally. We have the obvious contrasting middle-section, which actually ends up being performance-oriented and also modernist. But everywhere else, you'll see the (mostly) rigorous adherence to line aesthetics, hence the track's inspiration from Opal. You'll take note of the B section of the first third going diagonally instead of XY. You'll realize that gaoyubao managed to cram several interesting concepts into a single track, going way beyond the compositional sophistication of tracks by any other trackmaker.

The only significant criticism I have of WTM is the ending. It would have made so much more sense to keep Bosh balanced on his nose (with preceding airtime) instead of smashing him into that stall.

Anyways, I feel that demonstrating technique in composition brings tracks to a new level. I'd love to see more compositionally technical tracks, even if they end up being inaccessible.

I watched these expecting to vote for wtm, yet after comparing the 2 tracks, Eden 2 won me over.

WTM Started off very modest, and the credits pretty much indicate to me that it was because the track was an experiment for gao, so it _was_ modest. And then the closer you look at it, the more it shines, and the more you realize "Oh shit, this is awesome". Once it got to the contrasting quirk, it hit a soft spot for me. I forget the actual name of the style, but I'm gonna call it 0ppf quirk, is just phenomenal and I feel is executed to perfection, which is why it doesn't feel shoehorned to me, which is what I immediately thought on my first viewing. I think it showcased a perfect mix of skill and composition. The minute long intro creates an atmosphere before the track that I really appreciate even though once again, I hated it my first viewing.

I love Eden 2 as well, but I really knew that ending was coming because it's macklemore and he does that. I think it showcased just a little too much skill contrasted with a little too little pacing.

In the end I think the competition is very close. I didn't write as much on Eden 2 because I'm lazy, but they're both excellent tracks, and whoever wins deserves it.

TLDR;read Conun's review. He compares the tracks to piano pieces and articulates way better than I do.

But yeah. WTM for me.

I don't remember WTM being 10 minutes long wtf. And there's a quirk part in it I didn't remember either that caught me off guard.

WTM for me. Easy to follow, very simplistic, fun. All things I enjoy. Will say the beginning is a little slow to get things actually going but once it does it's oodles of joy.

Eden 2 is cool. It works as a good track on it's own (as in, it's fun to watch). The music is alright, I don't mind it. I'm not a fan of the slow parts (like the long pinches where nothing is happening and you're waiting for the sink - gotta get dat sink). Very well crafted fling quirk even if it looks totally the same to me as every other fling quirk, but I like this one in particular because of how fluid Bosh moves. I don't know how HP does it but he transitions/rotates into each trick so smoothly you almost don't know it's happening because it all looks like 1 long chain of a single trick. I also love moments like 1:40 and 2:31 where HP throws in these surprise moves that throw the flow off.

The problem I have with tracks is they try too hard to be 'deep' and 'emotional' they forget to be entertaining. Which is kind of the point. Eden 2 still manages to be fun and it's own thing, which I dig.

I like both of these tracks. Eden 2 has parts about it that work and parts that don't work like the xy sections and dramatic pauses for sinkageness. WTM I think is too long and takes too long to get going. I don't mind the quirk part in it but it could've been a little shorter.

This one is tougher than I thought it was going to be but I went with WTM, just because it was new and wasn't trying to be this next level emotional track. It could just be this fun to watch whimsical manual track that's really neat and cool. Which Eden 2 wasn't either, but I'm kind of over the whole music sink thing.

I think both of these tracks are winners.

It's not This is Love, but The Well Tempered Manual is a close second to my wish. Congratulations gao! And also congratulations to Helios! Coming in second in this tournament is no small feat! And I'm as much surprised to see how far Eden 2 got, as well as to how much I started liking this track! This was a worthy final poll in my opinion!

Also, kudo's to the organizers and to Rafael for coming up with running this in the first place. I very much enjoyed reading everybody's opinions on all of the tracks and I think we've all gained a little bit more insight and understanding into each others views of what we believe is a good track.

And lastly, I hope we'll see this tournament again sometime in the future!
