LRG out

There is a strange noise coming from my PC I'm going to send it in today, hopefully it'll be fixed fast, but with my luck, yeah.
It's just somethign that's loose btw, I ain't losing any of my stuff, and to be sure, I've uploaded all my important files, so no worries about that.

So if you don't see me the next days, I'm not dead, just without a PC

Wonder what sort of noise.... Hope it's fixed soon

Macs are infamous for running to hot, so if you used it for an extended period of time in a poorly ventilated area (IE a cramped desk, things blocking the fan/vents, etc.) it eventually fries the components, I doubt LR had much to do with it. (If you were running Crysis or a torture test, then that would probably contribute...)

@LRG: What brand of PC do you use, or do you build them yourself?

Apple laptops do run with really low fan speeds, and they don't speed up enough to compensate. For the new Intel models, smcFanControl is essential - you can set fan speeds for different situations, and you can get the temp of the machine easily.

Example, when I'm on battery, i run my fans at the default, and lowest setting - 2000rpm. If I get anywhere above 55C, I speed it up to 3000rpm, which is my setting for when I'm plugged in, it keeps it cooler and I still don't hear the fans.

If it gets any hotter (Eg, I'm using Flash (Flash heats up your CPU like crazy - because it doesn't offload to the GPU)), I go to 6000rpm.

I'm willing to bet that the cord to the CPU fan has fallen into the fan's path

hahahahah you do realise that when you send your comp into a technition they look through ALL your files and even steal them, right? (no joke, read a load of articles where a company put webcam bots and voice bots in to auto record whenever the comp was turn on, and macros so they could see when things were being taken on and off the comp, they took loads of photos from the comp, which seemingly were a woman's holiday photos, the guys got arrested for it)..

hmm. if only you lived near me, and it was a desktop pc I'd be happy to take a look at it since I seem to be good at that kind of stuff.
