tracklist

Post by mhenr18 on Sun Sep 15, 2013 7:50 am

This isn't strictly a version of LR, but I've been writing code that can read .sol files. I can load full tracks but I actually realised that there's a simple utility that I could write that might make everyone's lives a bit easier.

It's called tracklist and as its name might suggest, it just lists tracks contained in .sol files. It runs at a command line as I couldn't be bothered with a UI plus it means on OSX you can pipe stuff through grep and do cool unix stuff with its output. I've been in situations where I've forgotten what .sol had what track in it so for those of you who have giant .sol libraries this could be a godsend.

It never opens files for writing so there's no possible way it can damage your .sol files (if you know the C standard library, I'm opening them using  FILE *f = fopen(path, "rb");).

To use it, just run it and pass the names of the .sol files you're interested in as arguments. Alternatively, your shell (i.e windows command line or bash) can do nice things for you and automatically pass all of your .sol files to the tool, as demonstrated here:

Download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/49905412/tracklist.zip
(note that the file without an extension is the OSX binary, the .exe is the Windows binary)

edit: I updated the OSX binary to work with piping - if you run it with no args it accepts paths to .sol files on standard input. A great use of this is to just find every track in my downloads folder (or even on my machine).

"hello"

You really are a coder, aren't you? xD

This is pretty sweet. Who knows where we'll go from here?

I forgot that I also had one or two sols on this machine and just quickly scribbled a few tracks together. A more realistic example would be something like:

(found the KING .sol in my Downloads folder - it works too!)

Tgives windows usage. Note that in between the path to the tracklist exe file and the sols there is a space.
Also note that it isn't limited to Windows 8 - it should work fine on any Windows system for the past 10-15 years or so.
