(mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
Did this a few weeks ago as a bit of an experiment. Uni kinda made me forget to release it.
I'm back to working on Unleashed now, but I figured I'd make this public.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/49905412/Line%20Rider%202011-06-17.swf
- Modified the title screen (will need replacing)
- Fixed the tab key
- Removed the help system
- Changed the loader to adapt to game performance (fast machines get VERY fast loads now - I can load 10k in 4sec, 20k in 11sec and 30k in 22sec)
- Altered the loader to load the start point before the track (this is minor but always irritated me)
- Changed the compass to show distances in a non zoom dependent way
- Fixed the speedometer
- Added a frame counter to the timer
- Changed the in-game font to PT Sans
- Fixed the trash button's blur
- Removed a lot of old experimental code
- Updated the time display to show minutes.seconds;frames
- Added display of the time that the max speed was achieved
- Enabled drawing over the start point
- Added the ability to start playback in slow mo by holding the M key when starting playback
- Changed the flag to a vector to prevent pixelation when zooming in
- Removed the track dumping code that executed when the B key was pressed (this was debug code that made its way into the final release)
- Changed the linecount display to use swatches instead of text
- Changed the FPS counter to use a more accurate instantaneous display (averaged over 10 frames)

Question... Why can I not load my old tracks?

I really like this actually But it has a weird minimalist effect to it, which makes it feel like it's not done...
Re: (mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
Just tried this out using Anthem from the community collab and it borks the track :'(

Coolio. Btw, if I hold X, I can only make vertical lines

I hated the old speed-o-meter, haha.
EDIT: I can't seem to find the folder that contains the .sols for this version... Nevermind .-.
EDIT2: The Slo-mo snap is a bit annoying, but that's just about the only issue I could find.

By the way, you posted the version as the 2011 version. It's not 2011

Re: (mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
OMG this is the best
EDIT: here is a GIF for you mhenr:
the speedometer is fixed!!!!!!!!!
and the slomo button is sticky! I think it's annoying just because we're not used to it lol
that tab key works!!!!
the compass actually makes sense!!!!!
there's a frame counter!!!!!!
fps is actually accurate!!!!
but yeah raf is right. fix that pls? call this 6.8? or kevans fix that real quick?
totally switching to this version right away
I hope things are mostly compatible and stuff. but definitely for any new tracks, I'm using this version.

^Well, if He doesn't mind if I decompile this to "Compare and Contrast", I'll be right on it.
Re: (mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
#1: This really bothers me for some reason. Not to mention there are still new players joining, believe it or not. Also the playback data is hard to read if you don't know what it means.mhenr18 wrote:

#2: This is nice. My track has a top speed of 39.99 instead of the misleading 26.14
#3: Pretty interesting, I rather like this
#4: That's really useful, but Kevans says he's added it in 3.3, so perhaps a bit too late. Still better than not having it though.
#5: Kevans' 3.3 already has something like this, which is even better than this IMO
Everything else: Meh, it's alright I suppose
Overall, I will probably only use this for recording, as the minimalistic layout is nice. Definitely won't be doing track editing though. Can't wait to see Unleashed though!

Anthem isn't compatible just if you're wondering. So make sure not to let anybody use that version when sceneing it, I already tried to play the track with it.
Re: (mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
#Rev - ok, I'll proceed with caution in opening old files. At least it's not an insidious glitch like 6.7 that would sometimes break the track if it was made in 6.2 and you saved in and hen reloaded it in 6.7. Or maybe there is and we don't know about it yet...
mhenr why are there always compatibility glitches with your versions

Have you looked at the help in 6.7? It's leftover crap. Better to not have it. Sure a full fledged non glitchy help would be great but this is preferable to 6.7shotoku wrote:#1: This really bothers me for some reason. Wait, what's wrong with it? Why don't you want to use it?shotoku wrote:Overall, I will probably only use this for recording, as the minimalistic layout is nice. Definitely won't be doing track editing though. Can't wait to see Unleashed though!

(trying to not be a jerk, sorry if I come out that way, but)
Now do you see my side of things? That should be your answer as to why he doesn't want to use it.
Re: (mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
Let me emphasize: I'd prefer to have an option for Slo-mo snap on/off. (I'm so used to not having it)

I just like it better. I don't know why. It's like Mhenr is Coke, and Kevans is Pepsi. There is barely any difference, but people just like one over the other. That's it. I've been trying to come up with a reason, and this basically what it comes down to. They are just different, and people can like one over the other, and that shouldn't create any problems.rabid squirrel wrote:Wait, what's wrong with it? wait, both this version and 6.7 are made by mhenr?shotoku wrote:I just like it better. I don't know why. It's like Mhenr is Coke, and Kevans is Pepsi. Yes, even though I don't use pop lines I still like the version betterrabid squirrel wrote:wait, both this version and 6.7 are made by mhenr?shotoku wrote:I just like it better. I don't know why. Ok that's weird. you mean the style, the minimalism? the font?shotoku wrote:Yes, even though I don't use pop lines I still like the version betterrabid squirrel wrote:wait, both this version and 6.7 are made by mhenr?shotoku wrote:I just like it better. in any case, mhenr edited 6.2 to get to 6.7 so it's not really like you prefer kevans to mhenr if you're not a fan of new lines
Re: (mhenr's final 6.x revision) Version 2011-06-17
Mhenr, did you make the text interact with the game in such a way so that my graphics card tries to "fix" it? It's all blurry, like when I use morphological filtering, except I'm not.
No. Wait, it can't.
Is that your anti-aliasing? o.O

It's just Flash AA - I changed the font to the one I'm using in Unleashed (however I'm using custom text rendering in Unleashed that has a much sharper raster) because I like it more.
