Extreme Cliff

Post by theacp127 on Sun Mar 04, 2012 10:04 am

A track I made, which some users thought should be in the green room on here. So here you go. And this is meant to be a nose manual only track, so I put no tail manuals purpose.

Nice! You seem to have a grip on nose manuals, and reasonable smoothness too. Your scenery style seems quite 'classic', and decently done.

It looked fun, so do more of it Smile. Also, have a stab at tail manuals and see what happens!

Looks to be good, hope you'll keep improving! Smile

Try making more of a variety of manuals instead of nose manuals, and maybe try making some wells to give it more gravity and style. Over all it was a pretty neat track.

Very nice. I definitely didn't see that one recycle coming at 0:32. Was it just luck, or were you actually going for that?
I also really liked that you used rougher lines that he actually rides on to accent the scenery. It reminded me of TechDawg's "Discarded". Smile

But yeah, here are a few pointers, if you're looking for that sort of thing:

- Try to make your manuals a bit more regularly-shaped. It'll help keep them more evenly pressured and make them easier to balance. See how at 0:46 he falls forward as you try to get him over the other line? If you had stopped that bounce by making him enter it a bit smoother and making the line a bit smoother and regularly-shaped, you could've leaned him a bit further forward consistently and used all red lines without falling out of the manual. Another good example is the manual at 0:47; you see how the end of it looks a bit off, and it slows him down and takes away from the smoothness?
Honestly, though, a lot of people have this problem, so don't fret over it.

- Try to target a specific contact point with your quirks, and know what you want it to do. The contact points are spidey (string at the end of the sled), nose (the spidey and nose both touch the line in a [perfectly balanced flat nose manual), hand (each hand is a separate contact point), foot (same note as hand), tail (the part of the back of the sled that touches the line), second peg (the other part of the back of the sled), butt, and shoulder (top of the arm, not top of the body). These are the only spots that he can use when he touches the line.
If that was a bit too much for you right now, don't worry, you can come back to that later. xD

- The headriding as used at 0:43 is a bit taboo around here, simply because it looks messy and kills the flow of the track a bit. You might want to avoid it for now, and work back up to using it in different ways when you get better at manuals and quirks. Smile

- Have you ever tried using a stall at the end of the track where he lives? It can be as simple as putting him in a little box or a circle that he goes around. Generally tracks are better received when he lives at the end, even if it's much, much easier than what you're doing now once you get the hang of it.

Definitely keep making more tracks, I can see you becoming known as one of the best riders of 2012 if you keep improving at this rate (just by looking at the screenshot of Round Hills on your profile).
Speaking of your other stuff, you might want to re-upload "Round Hills" and "Back and Forth" with different music, as UMG has blocked them both. =/
