I've just been doing some work on the OpenGL support and I've figured out that there's some Macs that won't run Unleashed.

If your mac has Intel GMA950 or GMAX3100 graphics accelerators, Unleashed isn't going to run. Unfortunately for Kramwood, that includes 2006 model MacBooks.

Oh. Well, in that case never mind haha.

How's it been running anyway? I haven't been getting much feedback from people who have it so I can only assume things are working well?

It seems the exports are a little jumpy. I get little 2 frame freezes and other parts of the track lag behind the camera movement.
Spoiler:
This is suppose to be a smooth curve right here.
Also to play back from the flag the short cut is shift+Y, but that also locks the camera where it is instead of the normal zoom level.

@playback from flag: It's fixed in the next build. I've been working on the exporting engine to get it working well in Snow Leopard, and to also fix up the frame skipping in the video.

For those who don't like motion blur, ask yourselves which video looks better. Both are 720p at 30fps, which is the best frame rate you'll get on YouTube so it can't get any smoother.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/49905412/scenerynoblur.mov

edit: Of course, for those willing to forgo YouTube and go for the best frame rates there's nothing that beats 60fps with motion blur https://dl.dropbox.com/u/49905412/scenery60blur.mov

edit 2: And in addition, the interpolation works the other way. Super slow motion!

No blur. Why would you ever blur scenery you've put effort in? I don't think Unleashed should only focus on performance.

I agree, I think blur would be a hype as well. I remember when people motion blurred their LR vids in Sony Vegas; it was cool to start off with, but man, there was put much effort into revealing how to disable the effect after a short while.
It hides, makes it not true. I agree it could be usable for a final render, but not pre-applied.
Actually, I think it can be most relative to compression in contrast to lossless, or JPEG versus RAW. Perhaps okay for the end result, but it should / must be an option.

With scenery tracks nowadays, it's not like we have more than a few milliseconds to actually appreciate the scenery since line rider moves way too fast.

I think that a blur option would be nice; it definitely looks better in some cases.

Also, 60 fps hype \Eep/

I think the blur looks pretty nice, but I wouldn't go using it on dense scenery

All the more reason not to use it for those types of tracks.

I prefer no blur, but that's because I can't appreciate the track itself as much. For those who want to use it, I'm fine.

120fps GMV Hehe
Although you probably wouldn't, it'd be pretty funny to have in there

I was going to make a jab at how scenery tracks don't matter nowadays, but if Unleashed is going to bring in new players a few of them are bound to be new scenery guys. Also...

Speed has nothing to do with it. Can you imagine how cruddy Transcendental would look with motion blur?

I managed to play it on OS X Snow Leopard today. It was quite fun, although I hated the mouse I was using.

Performance was about 30fps.

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention - I don't really like how panning uses the scroll wheel, and doesn't have at least an optional tool. I feel the zoom should use the scroll wheel if anything. Not trying to sound like an asshole, but the current setup for zooms and panning should be arranged.

If you're on snow leopard the setting for panning is in the menus. Otherwise it's just dependent on whether you're using a mouse or trackpad. Mice zoom, trackpads pan (as they have a pinch gesture that can be used to zoom).

Er, I meant the camera moving too fast. Transcendental doesn't move that fast. In any case, motion blur is still just an option. The scenery maker should use their own judgment on whether or not to use it.

I don't understand why people are arguing over it since mhenr already made motion blur adjustable. If the scenery maker can make good (or more specifically, tasteful) scenery, he will also judiciously choose whether or not to use motion blur (ie the scenery maker will know not to use motion blur on dense scenery).

I got the new version, but now the export option is gone. Did you take it out temporally?

I've put a new build up that has a rewritten export engine. This works for 10.6+, with Snow Leopard using the old (and slower) QTKit media engine, and Lion/Mountain Lion using AVFoundation which is a LOT faster. All of the bugs with choppiness and frames being corrupted should be cleaned up now Smile
