Should I release v3 with just the flag lock, or finish it?

Well, you may of heard, Im working on Linerider v3, and this time it's not going to be any experiments. So what do you guys want?

current to do list:
Done - Flag lock: Hold shift to place/remove flag at anytime to eliminate miss clicks
-Line length/zoom level indicator: There will be a text that follows the mouse to display how much said player is zoomed in or length of line
-Green trash: Clears all green
-Playback settings: on/off settings for color and zoom
-Playback control: rewind, pause, etc.
-Rotation speed: Self explanitory

any ideas are open, just explain why they should be practical. I will not do new line types. Please note that not all ideas will be accepted.

So I've been going around and talking to people, and it seems the only feature people truly want right now is the flag lock function, and nothing else. So I'm wondering if you guys would just like V3 w/out all the fancy requests.

I want to have lots of kinds of sleds, including a wood toboggan and a wiener, maybe a pull-down menu to select them? Sorry, just saw that wiener sled and thought it was great V3 + Poll 719547

Secondly, I want to be able to draw a line all the way across the screen at the least zoomed zoom setting.

Finally, I want there to be a random switch that you can turn on and off, so that when Bosh falls off of the sled, the guy from mortal combat says "FATALITY", accompanied by this picture in line art:

Also, keep the 40fps, and the same physics, K? I don't want to have to always switch between v3 and 6.7 for collabs.

also remove the size limits on lines (if pos)

also-also: don't forget to keep all the current stuff, including 45 degree snap

I can't remove the limit, but I can make it so the limit is so big, you wouldn't ever reach the max.

Flag Lock sounds fantastic.

However, I have lots of leftover ideas from when mhenr left. (Very Happy)

These things should be pretty easy to do (important stuff in bold):
- The pause function
- Hold M and play - starts in slo-mo
- Help feature triggered by multiple keys or by holding down H for a couple seconds
- Make Bosh blink slower in slow motion
- Bring back the tab key - in 6.2, tab zoomed out to show the whole track and then you could press it again to zoom back in to the previous zoom level. 6.7 didn't have it
- have an option to change the second counter into a frame counter (starts at 0, adds one every frame, if you're at 40fps it would add 40 each second, this would be great for speed contests)
- a 2fps "recording mode" that displays 40fps all the time
- make the jump-to-flag key not F, so when I hit Command+F to make it full screen it doesn't go to the flag
- make it ask you if you're sure before you delete a save, and before you load a track if you didn't just save the one that's currently open
- make the "preview line" XY snap when you have XY snap on, and make it so that when you hit X after starting to draw a line it snaps.
- an option in play mode to watch the sled rather than Bosh
- an option for faster track loading (like 6.1 vs 6.2)

also, if possible:
- a frame by frame button (arrow keys when paused?)
- in 6.7, if you erase lines earlier in the track, shift+delete doesn't put the line back exactly correctly. an undo button, or just a fixed shift+delete, would be great.
- fix the speed thing so it's actually accurate. It got down to speed 0.8 on a curve when he was going at speed 80 in a straight direction before the curve, so the issue has something to with curves.
- a "real time" button to play the track that will make it run at what would be 40fps even if your comp can't render every frame so you can listen to music and test the sync


BESIDES ALL THIS THOUGH - could you tell me how you're making these variations? I'm learning plenty of programming languages in college now and I want to see if I could work on these things myself.

I'd like Line Rider to still be somewhat difficult and timely with these new versions. For example, I see a suggestion for an auto-stack button. That's stupid. Where's the difficulty in that? Don't add anything like that, because it takes away some of the skill needed to create good LR tracks.

Slow motion also makes it easier to see ever frame (If, by slow-mo, you mean slower than the normal "M" function which LR already has), making it easier to make every-frame flings. It's like Cheat Engine built in. Stuff like that will ruin LineRider >.>

Stuff like fast-forward for long tracks, fast loading, zoom, flag-lock, etc. That's all fine. But when you get into stuff that makes hard track-making easier, LineRider just becomes stupid, and the stuff that took/takes skill now takes none. Don't add crap like that.

^ I don't see a frame-by-frame button as something that is "cheating" but I suppose it could be argued.

I like the idea because then it would be less about having fast eyes and more about art and what you could create (which is the most important part of LR IMO)

Engine 2 was an attempt to do that, but I don't know why someone would want that who's pc's run it at 20 fps, it would skip every other frame, making it look like it's lagging even worse.
Ummm, I guess, do you know as2 and/or javascript? because there could be a few things I would like help with.

I agree with this. Though I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell me what not to do, I'm always way ahead of everyone, and thinking along the same lines as you.

It's not flash professional. It's Flash Cs4 Web Premium. but the as2 part is correct.

I didn't have uber color, that was a photoshop efraz did. The color option is either on or off, and it toggles the color line playback.

fyi, you should stay in cs4 for LR - there's a bug in CS5 that breaks any build of LR you do with it.

also rabid, if you're going to help with anything, it might be worth shooting me a message once you get an idea of Objective-C (if you've learned C, it's an easy extension to pick up) - I graduate from high school in 2 weeks and I've got a work in progress Objective-C port of LR to the Mac (that uses opengl for rendering - I tried this before but now I actually have a better idea of what I'm doing) that I want to finish asap once I finish. having someone to help out would be a godsend.
