I need help.

Post by fingernails on Tue Apr 04, 2017 1:09 pm

I need to make a line rider track for a huge project. It needs to contain the following: Two different polynomial functions (degree 2 or greater)
One rational function (that is factorable)
Sine function
One logarithmic function
One composite function f(g(x))

I don't know how to put graphs in the program or how to make the rider stay in the middle of the screen for the recording. I don't even know how to make the recording. The tracks I've made so far haven't helped. Could someone please explain everything like I'm five. I need a lot of help. This project is due in three days.

Hi there!

I've got a little bit of bad news: There's no way to generate a graph or function curves natively in-game as of yet. Additionally, there's no fixed camera mode as of yet—any track you make will have the camera centered on the rider, rather than the graph. My suggestion, if you're simply looking to replicate functions, is to do the following. I'm assuming you have a basic knowledge of the three line types, here, as well as an understanding of how to navigate a basic Line Rider UI.

First, using either Line Rider Advanced or LRJS, toggle the XY snap by moving to the line tool and holding X while drawing lines. One trick you can do, if you've graphed the function using, say, Wolfram Alpha, is to install a screen transparency tool like Powermenu and make the line rider window semitransparent, so that you can trace the function into line rider.

As for recording, both of the options listed above have native recording tools, though I've found LRJS typically produces more reliable clips on my end. Set the start and end points using the two flag types, then hit the record button. Once it's done recording, you can download a WebM file from the site. From there, you can use ffmpeg to convert the file to an mp4 and use it in whatever editing software you have.

This is the best I can do with the information you've given me. If you have any questions, I'm happy to help.

My old flash builds have a fixed camera setting. Download this and run it in your web browser: https://www.dropbox.com/s/eimqf90rzoydaim/LR%20Beta%202%20V3.4.X.swf?dl=0

To get the fixed camera, click on the gear and toggle this setting:

You'll need a screen recorder to record anything off of that however. Though if you're willing to put up with it, we can show you where to extract the flash save cookie and open it up in LRA or LRJS.

Thank you guys so much for this. I'm fine with anything as long as it's not too impossible for someone who is only an average computer user. I would really appreciate a walkthrough.

If you download a flash player standalone we can definitely make this easier with locating the save. Web browsers are moving away from flash support, so we can't promise your save being safe.

I'm assuming you're on windows so download this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c521efim23uv8xy/FP%2017.exe?dl=0

Open up the swf in that. Then right click on the screen and click on settings, make sure the storage limit is set to unlimited. LR produces arbitrarily large saves, so this is important.

Make your track and whatever blah blah. When you're done, save and close the app. you then want to open up your file browser and type in %appdata% into the address bar and press enter like so:

Then navigate to Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\[random numbers and letters]\localhost
Inside you will find a file named "savedLines.sol". Copy and paste that somewhere on your desktop. LRA and LRJS can open these files no problem and will run your track no problem.

If you're on a mac however, the process is different. I don't have those instructions memorized, so I'm sure someone else can help you.
