Re: Round #4 - Poll #8
What I said the last 3 rounds:
Explosivo - This feels really weird to not vote for a track the first round, and then to vote for it every round after. It was really difficult for me to choose between this track and Catgroove, but it's just really solid overall and the ending is a lot better executed. I think I tend to discount this track at first due to the silly music (and it not really being my kind of humor) but then as I compare it closely with other tracks the solid execution really stands out. √
Catgroove - This track has some really great moments like the drop, and solid sections like the alt and the integration... but also weaknesses. The opening is clearly not up to par with the rest, the highspeed is unsure what to make of itself, the quirk near the end feels sorta like filler, and the animation is cool but not worth the slow blue-flatseld buildup of speed. Ended up going with Explosivo over this one, though it was close. X
Retrograde - This track has such a unique feel, and maintains that throughout the entire thing. Plus the presentation/opening/ending is just stellar. Incredibly solid and enjoyable all around. Fav in this poll. √
Quirker's Laboratory - I like this track's unique style but it's too do-whatever to get my vote against these well-structured tracks. X
- Spoiler:
- Explosivo (X √ √)Some really good syncs and solid execution but it's mostly just a speedy manuquirk in my eyes.I'm such a reluctant fan of this track It's grown on me. But I can't deny that while I'm not a huge fan of the intention of the track the execution is rock solid and that's become a bigger and bigger portion of what gets votes from me as I watch all these tracks. GMV this round even though it didn't last round, haha.
Catgroove (√ √ √)I wasn't thinking I would vote for this track this round, but the rock-solid execution really stands out among this group of tracks, most of which are unplanned and do-whatever. I'm a fan of tracks with clear vision and execution. Some parts of this have always felt sloppily executed to me, but I greatly admire and appreciate the ambition, especially at the long drop.I really enjoy the structure of this track and some of those music sync moments are great, even if it is sloppy in places.
Retrograde (√ √ √)The music sync sections and the long drop sequence really help this track stand out despite the sloppy opening and close-to-the-end section.really great concept, really great execution, really great presentation, really great opening and ending. Really nice track. All around excellent concept/execution/presentation.
Quirker's Laboratory (√ √ √)Again - great concept, great execution, great presentation, great ending. Continues to stack up as one of my favorites in each new round. This track feels so physically intense to me. The pressure on Bosh and the mix of flatsled, manuals, and quirk make this really fun to watch.Nice physical style, fun watch. This track feels so visceral to me! Usually when I watch a quirk it looks like Bosh is pretty much just flying all over the place defying physics (sorry to generalize like this but it's true for me), but in this one there is the same power and detail except everything is PUSHING bosh. Feels so much more powerful. Add in the liberal use of granuals and flatsled, and the numerous creative moments that you don't see in any other track, and this track GMV, at least for this round.

It was really difficult for me to choose between this track and Catgroove, but it's just really solid overall and the ending is a lot better executed. THIS!
I voted Explosive and Retrograde, I think? It was a while back and I can't remember exactly anymore. It's so close, because I may well have voted for Catgroove, which is also awesome. Quirkers Lab seems just too outdated to vote for and is too much "do whatever" imo. It has great nostalgic value though
Re: Round #4 - Poll #8
Explosivo and Retrograde advance to round 5, Catgroove and Quirker's Laboratory are eliminated.
