mhenr18 wrote:Rabid, it's not like the changes have been made in a way that means you can't create a B2 track with LR:A.

It's not uncommon to see people talking about hitting the limits of B2, so I don't see what's wrong with playing around with new concepts. LR has never been about completely arbitrary restrictions on what features and bugs are "allowed". Even in the one place where there was one (the lack of an eraser), fsk changed his mind due to people hitting the limits of what was possible and wanting more.

Hell, in fsk's unreleased version he put *wind* lines in. Compared to that, a variation in accel line power and line thickness is nothing!

You can do this while retaining what is essential about Line Rider: everything is created with lines of a single thickness. If you think I'm adding the second part, I'm not - that's how I describe Line Art to non-linerider players. And variation in line power is already a thing with multi-lining, something that is more flexible, versatile, and compatible than what has just been added to LRA.

I'm not saying it's not allowed, just that I don't like it and don't plan to use it. Again, just my opinion - I'm not saying anyone is WRONG for having a different one.

Yeah, wind lines were completely stupid. I'm glad he scrapped that. Re: lack of an eraser, I'm pretty sure there's something to the facts that
1) nobody uses Beta 1 anymore
2) people STILL play beta 2, 8 years later
3) nobody plays Beta 3 with its slowdown and trapdoor lines
4) nobody uses pop lines (except efraz, haha)
5) Nobody even talks about the photoshop-esque features of Unbound
6) When I edited together a color mask-overlay test of Beta 2 for Getthim, LITERALLY NOBODY CARED (actually BHCS did a similar thing years before and the same thing happened)

I'm a much bigger fan of the approach conundrumer is taking. Make it pretty much exactly like Beta 2, with a smoother interface and features that make it easier to create stuff. For example:
- (planned) fill tool - creates LINES that fill in an area. These are then individually editable.
- (planned) live collaboration on the internet (instead of swapping files - imagine the CSP)
- no handling of multi-lining, just draw a line on top of another lines and snap it to that line's endpoints
- (possibly planned) thick scenery line capability - draws an arbitrary number of lines at a time on the sides of the line you are drawing (thick lines created by smaller lines, then each line in individually editable)
Basically, it's Beta 2 without all the time-wasting mind-numbing repetitive work. Also, it doesn;t hurt that it's backwards compatible.

Also, I should mention that the reason I am such a big fan of backwards compatibility is not because I hate LRA in any way (well, strongly, there are some things that bother me a bit - but I was the third person to release a track in LRA, including the dev, I might remind y'all) - but because I want to maximize collaboration on this site. I don't want us to dissolve into little pockets of people who use LRA, people who use LRJS, and people who use Beta 3.4.x, and nobody understands the other. I want someone using beta 2 and someone using LRJS and someone using LRA to be able to COLLABORATE. (already true in the case of LRJS and B2)

@rabid, it's probably at this point that I should mention I'm just ironing out a few kinks in a tool that can convert between trk (v1), lineonline json and .sol. As long as a version can import .sols and play/save those tracks, there's no reason we can't then take that back to a different format (as long as you haven't used new features).

I, for one, am in love with this varying accel lines thing. I love playing around with shit like this.
previously, to get any interesting effects like this, we'd have to abuse game mechanics. Now there's a whole new one, right here! And certainly if we want to make old tracks, I'm sure we all have the energy to scrounge up an old version of LR if we're that interested.
I'm super curious to see where LR goes from here! Smile Sheldon and I will keep making tracks regardless.

Added some features I liked and figured there's no reason to wait to release it for 1.5, which I have some time consuming plans for
responsive live editing, when you use line adjust during playback, the current frame will begin updating immediately. Before, it would only begin once you applied the change by releasing the mouse.
live editing preference
"Show contact lines" is much different now. It now indicates if the next frame will die, and what contact line is responsible by appearing as an orange line. Rider and sled breaks for the next frame turn the contact points dark blue.
added 16x playback
bugfix involving snapping one line to the same line twice.
bugfix where high update speeds wouldn't actually hit the speed intended.

it really hasn't been the same without the standard orange background I've gotten so familiar with over the years

weird humor aside, hm. I don't really see too many problems with the off-white color, been pretty easy on the eyes to me

I'm considering retoning the background white, but I feel like the sled should still be contrasted instead of the same color as the background. it makes it feel... transparent.

Regardless, i'm toying with that idea and this scarf idea

Bosh looks stylish
You guys should make it fully possible to generate your own bosh
I think it would go over very well. We'd generate some new interest.

Essentially, what I propose is a simple texture pack feature. Conun, I'm lookin' at you too. We could have a lot of fun with that and it doesn't seem toooo hard to implement. If I have to, I'll edit code in conun's so that it takes resources from somewhere else where I have stored my own custom bosh skin.

Sorta ahead of you: https://github.com/conundrumer/lr/tree/master/assets/svg
I was trying to implement custom skins with custom colors, but only got halfway there before realizing it wasn't worth my time at the moment. As of now, making custom skins is really tedious.
The difficult parts is designing the interface for designing custom skins, and designing custom colors as well.

GLITCH THING IS A HAPPENING

So when I make tracks, I do a lot of live editing, and a certain glitch has come up. When I play the complete track without setting any flags, Bosh dies. However, if I set a flag before the manual (while in airtime, mind you) he lives. He also lives if I set the flag.

also I tried setting the flag in different places and he dies in different places what is this voodoo magic help me yo

One thing that would be really useful is to make Bosh a bit transparent in contact point mode to make shoulder wells easier. Bosh's body usually covers up the well and make it difficult to see what's happening.
