Features I wish I could suggest for 3.4.x

Post by rabid squirrel on Fri May 22, 2015 1:00 am

Feels kinda pointless to post these in the 3.4.x thread so I'll just leave them here.

- Track lines lock. Checkbox that would keep any track lines from being deleted. Super helpful if there are different physics and you won't know if you deleted a track line, or just for scening in general. EDIT: also for contests where you can't delete any lines in a maze, maybe lock track lines at load?
- Toggle key (hold) for scenery-scenery snap
- Arbitrary angle snap
- Invisible Flags (all sorts of applications in recordings)
- On Mac, rewind is Command, but screenshot is Command+Shift+4. Request to put rewind on a different key.
- Scenery lines should snap to track lines regardless of which end of the track line you are on and regardless of whether you are holding shift. Scenery lines don't have two sides.

I'll keep posting as I think of more stuff. If kevans ever comes back or someone else takes over his builds, this way I won't forget ideas I've had

I know its a big one but integrated recording would be insanely helpful.

Edit: a 2nd "security flag" if you accidentally delede the first one and have to start the track from the beginning.

In addition to the scenery: Angle-based eraser so you can delete certain scenery lines.

A plain fun one would be multiple riders. Even though not many people will be doing tracks with two or more, I think it would be really fun.

I think Beta 3 had dual riders - it wasn't all it cracked up to be (much like the rest of Beta 3).

A security flag is something I'd like to see too, or maybe just an option for multiple flags

Can you elaborate on this?

I think this is worth exploring, so you can choreograph masses of riders like a group dance, or taking collaboration to a new level with the collaborators controlling their own riders.

Line segment erasing. No idea how hard this would be to implement but I'm just gonna throw it out there. And this might also be controversial since you aren't erasing lines but only parts of them. But would seriously help with scenery. And probably everything else.

Imagine if you try to shade a thing using Y lines but you don't like it when it's done. It'd be awesome to be able to set the eraser at 90 degrees, only erasing 90 degree lines. You can also go backwards and make an eraser that erases everything but a certain angle.

Main issue is dealing with the camera

I think a big hurdle for this one is figuring out an effective interface to make it intuitive for someone to choose an angle to erase/not erase, and to choose an angle based eraser to begin with

as a scener I feel like most of the time is spent drawing the lines, not erasing them and I dunno if I would ever use it, but maybe others would

Also, weird bug happened with fast forwarding where a sort of white line appeared that was going between the upper left corner and Bosh. Only visible with scenery in front of it. Had to close LR to get it to go away.

^ I believe kevans (or mhenr?) tried this and it was buggy so took it back out. But yes, I would certainly appreciate that too.

kevans hasn't had time to work on his builds so I'll take over.

After I port lr to the newest version of flash (a lot more straightforward than porting to the browser!), i'll be able to implement this, along with music sync and a timeline. I'll get this done faster, the more you guys shout at me.

Would it be possible to implement a setting for invisible lines in playback and/or changing the background? I've always wanted to just go outside and take a picture and draw a track straight onto everything.

That also depends on if the background is actually moving with bosh or if it is just a stationary thing I suppose.

Sorry, I took back what I said. Flash is really awful to work with.

It's an interesting idea, importing images, but it takes away from how Line Rider is about lines.
