That was the greatest juke in the history of Line Rider. Like, this is literally Chekov's Gun: the track.

I loved the concept of this track. I just want to know by "end" do you mean you are leaving the forums or just stop making tracks? You are a great person to have around and you make all the trophies so you leaving the forum would probably cause the apocalypse or something.

I honestly didn't like it a whole lot. I found it really disorientating, especially when the track changed right when i had to blink, making me rewind the video a bit just to see if it did or didn't change. It left me very confused.

Honestly, while this was impressive and cool to watch, I found it hard to follow. The very first cut kinda threw me off. I was expecting him to go down a hill or something but it just cut to him going high-speed. It might've been cooler if you used that line to gradually speed him up instead. A few times throughout the video (more towards the end) I wound up having to watch his scarf to see which way he was going, which meant paying less attention to the track(s). I do understand that the cuts are a major part of the video though, and they are done well, so very nice job on that. Another minor nit-pick is the zoom is a tad too close for me. It made it even harder for me to see what was going on sometimes.

My favorite cut was the one at 1:20. As for the tracks, it's a bunch of stuff I couldn't do, done awesomely. This is the sort of video that takes a ton of time to record and edit, and I applaud you for that. Considering everything, well done man. Thumbs Up

All right, let's go. I'm not going to go easy on this because of the way you presented this track. It doesn't speak in your favor. The long line with the texts made me angry. What's the fuck is up with all very skilled people leaving for feeling under appreciated? Grow a pair and start thinking about yourself. Maybe people don't appreciate your skill as much as before because what you do is outdated. Line Rider isn't about skill anymore, it's about what you do with it. Skill is a tool that broadens your capacity as a trackmaker. I seriously don't understand what's going on in your head, because what you do and what you say are as alike as day and night. You rant about the way Line Rider is progressing, yet you still conform and make unconventional videos like this.

When I saw all those transitions, I thought of your comment on the preview of Jam, saying how the transition between two clips were perfect. I take it that that inspired you to make this? I really like that you took this phenomenon and put it into a video, and I think this concept has an enormous amount of potential. This idea was amplified by this track, especially by one moment, I'll come back that later. I think the execution of this idea was quite poor, however. Whereas the two clips in the preview aligned because the camera angle, the direction, position and rotation were the same, this was rarely the case in this track. There were two moments where I thought you used the concept you took in an effective manner. First at 1:20, as iPi pointed out, where you actually used the transition as an advantage to slow Bosh down. You kept all above factors the same but changed the speed, which made it easy to comprehend what happens. The second moment is at 2:53, where you made an awesome direction change that looks like there is no transition at all. You kept speed, position and rotation the same and only altered the direction. The surroundings of both moments you transitioned in-between were also the same, which made this moment feel very natural. This was easily favourite moment of the track and it gave one of the coolest effects I've seen in a while. In all of the other transitions, there wasn't much they added.  There were often too many factors that were not alike, which made the transitions very difficult to comprehend and made the track confusing and incohesive. This entire idea would've looked 100 times cooler if you actually made a track, or pieces of track, to make transitions smoother and to use the transitions to your advantage. Lastly, I like the idea of making this your masterpiece, even though I think you can do much better than this.

To conclude this rant, I think you have some really creative ideas and a lot of talent on this game still. However, I think you should seriously reconsider your ideas about Line Rider and the way you look at the community in order to execute those ideas fashionably.

As a person who apparently has no trouble discerning large amounts of visual information quickly, even when it is changing (I recognized every section for the track and time during which the section was found in that track) rapidly, I have to call you on the three places when you completely chose a different position related to the camera. C'mon, man! the ending was amazing, it threw me off sooooo much. Also, lots of stuff you made just for this video actually worked worse than the times you used portions of your more recent tracks. The music syncing in some of your use of creation made me realize new things about his rotation and pointed out even more epicness to your skill in this game. Very cool video, and even cooler showcase of the best you have to offer. Really, this is what I would show people if they wanted to know the best way to combine style with skill with sync with flow...etc
I found this quite easy to watch why is this so hard for other people

im glad you remember that, that definitely did have a part in the inception of this.  i agree with everything besides the rotation part, i didnt think there were that many times the rotation didnt work between clips.

also, about the thread move, phunner had a cut or two, why didn't it get placed in this section as well?

Post by gaoyubao Tue Apr 21, 2015 5:59 pm

Despite the fact that I'm sure chuggers has not been planning this all along, I believe that the thread for this track (whooh that's a controversial term; I'm not really sure I should be using it) should be moved back into bare tracks. It's not a question of following rules. I actually find that this track could be questioning the definition/requirements of an LR track. The video isn't a simple compilation of tracks, like an anniversary recap video or a trash compilation is. Instead, it could be interpreted as some sort of overarching spirit of LR that is represented through bosh traveling through the different tracks. This video isn't just about editing, especially since editing is an intrinsic part of all LR releases, which means all LR tracks. It's the reason we don't just release .sols. Basically, this video captures LR from a personal perspective (chuggers') without the creator having to open LR, except to re-record, I guess.
If efraz (https://iridethelines.forumotion.com/t11010-preview) were to do a similar thing, but with all the tracks from LR history (which aren't his), I feel like it would be more in the Oddball category. But these are all chuggers' tracks, so it is all his work.

It's about time people started pushing linerider past technical skill and traditional "track" making. Call it what you want — track, compilation, oddball, whatever — it's successful. Even the fact that it's causing such a ruckus means it's successful.

It's not just about the lines, people! Keep playing & keep pushing!

I like how you used this technique to take shortcuts to finding a way to sync to the track without having to do it all in one play through. Smile Not saying it was an easy way to do just that at all either, because the idea is sweet and could be expanded even further now that you put it out there. Thumbs Up

Live and Let Die ~My Masterpiece Empty Re: Live and Let Die ~My Masterpiece

Post by Opal Rider Wed Apr 22, 2015 1:33 am

I'm not going to lie, when I skimmed through this the first time, I judged a bit early. Part of this comes from me being a bit late to the party, and trying to catch up as much as I can on all of the stuff that happened to go down in the past evening, and combine that with all of the older tracks being thrown into the mix, and I totally missed the original material during the first watch. So until recently, I was confused as to why moving the thread was even an issue until now.

That being said, I'm pretty sure we're all smart enough to understand that it's not the cuts that made Rabid feel like it should go in the previews section. Quite a bit in the beginning feels like it was from an older track, especially at first glance. (guilty). I'm still not entirely sure how much of it was original, but it did come off almost more like a compilation than a full track, as much as you would want to go with the 'everything's my masterpiece' route.

But I'm reviewing less of the track by now and more my reactions to the shit. The presentation was awesome, and I liked what you did as a whole! Every once in a while a cut would seem weird, but lining those up would be hard enough as it is, especially with as many as there were. Even if I had seen a lot of the wow moments before, the newer stuff was great as well, and it was fun watching the others again either way.

I think cuts are an interesting concept. I've thought about how it would be possible to concurrently create different sections in a track, whether by a solo track maker or as a collab, with a director making the decisions of the style of each individual section and transitions of each cut and figuring out how to make the whole thing a cohesive entity.
I don't know what to make of your statement, though I kinda see you're suggesting the best parts can be distributed across several tracks.

Rafael wrote:This entire idea would've looked 100 times cooler if you actually made a track, or pieces of track, to make transitions smoother and to use the transitions to your advantage.
todo: implement speedometer + cuts/track transitions in lineonline (actually i need to think about this more/see a better execution)
